Doll Up Edition: 1966 International Scout

Sometimes, it can feel like the habit of adding cosmetic enhancements to a standard model and attaching some catchy name is a modern phenomenon. This 1966 International Scout is here to prove you wrong, as it’s a rare “Doll-Up” Scout, a moniker that somewhat shocks me in its refreshing honesty about what the kit contained. The Scout featured a variety of cosmetic enhancements, some of which are preserved on this example here on craigslist that’s listed for $12,000.

Thanks to Barn Finds readers Taylor W & Ikey H who both spotted this Scout. The seller includes a picture of the original line setting ticket document that acts as a guide to the options this Scout came with, and proclaims in huge letters that it should be dolled up while moving down the line. The options for this kit ranged from chrome bumpers to sliding hardtop windows.

Other features included the champagne carpets seen here, but the seller notes that a previous owner swapped out some of those items for black, notably the shift knob and steering wheel. Other details present on this example that were added as part of the Doll-Up kit include the chrome bumpers, sliding window, sport mirror, chrome headlight rings, and chrome dash knobs.

The Scout was recently repainted a fairly awesome color known as Aspen Green, and the interior is also said to be new – I thought those seats looked pretty good. The four-cylinder / manual transmission combination will be easy to live with, but the seller doesn’t elaborate on mechanical health. He’s looking for offers over $12K – is this Doll-Up edition worth the ask?

Those plain seats definitely weren’t part of the doll up package.

If the vehicle runs and there is no rust, this is a bargain despite it not being all original.

Depending on its mechanical health, it could be a fairly decent DD, though if they went through the troubles of repainting it they should spare some elbow grease with a few dollars for Naval Jelly on the chrome work, front bumper in particular.. it may have all the Cd airflow of a Kleenex box but that 4 pot burner should help on the commute, and who else on your block/workplace has one?

Nice looking truck and if it was a bronco it would be at $20K by now!! I think the price on theses trucks can only go up from here!! It’s truly an iconic truck!!

I had one look just like this, even the same color. I really liked it. My wife, who I was dating at the time didn’t care for it as much. We had to put pillows in between the seats and she would shift the gears. She said SCOUT stood for Second Class Outdoor Utility Truck.
    Well, I liked it anyways!

The scout was a lot better SUV than the bronco ever was. It would be worth more money if it had the v8 instead of the 4 cylinder with the manual transmission.

It’s a shame that the Scout was discontinued when it was. I can see it competing against the likes of the 4Runner, the Pathfinder, possibly, the Montero.
