Drop Top Dropped: 1973 Ford Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The year 1973 would be the last year for the increasingly larger Mustang body, as it would also be the last year for the Mustang convertible. . . for a while. Along with the Mercury Cougar, they would be the only Ford products offering the convertible that year. Word must have gotten out that the Mustang drop top was being dropped because production for the convertible increased significantly from 6,401 in 1972 to 11,853 in 1973. Here is a nice example for sale here on eBay in Dallas, Texas.

And what says 1973 better than this almost avocado green Mustang? This one owner Mustang is in great shaped all around. The seller gets plenty of thumbs up when taking this Mustang for a ride, and I can see why. He/she says the car is a blast to drive and would be an excellent investment due to the fact that it is a survivor car in such great shape. The seller can even provide a video and dozens of other pictures in addition to the 24 pictures in the ad.

You’ve got to say that this is a picture angle of a car’s interior that you can’t get from a sedan, coupe or hardtop. The beautful interior is original, in excellent condition and matches the exterior paint. The white convertible top is also original to the car and is in excellent condition. All interior features are working properly.

The engine in this Mustang is the 302 cubic inch V-8. The car has only been driven 29,000 miles in 45 years. It has an automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. A lot of original paper work goes with the car including original title, original temporary tag, warranty card and other paper work and receipts.

It would be hard to find any 1973 car in the condition this one is in. What better way to enjoy a car of this era than in this very nice 1973 Ford Mustang convertible?

    That… is a color.

I don’t know that I can really see past that color to appreciate the car for what it is.

We had a refrigerator in that color back in the Seventies. It was awful.

I had a ’71 Dodge Demon 340 in a somewhat darker shade, called Green Go. It too was awful. (The color, not the car.)

Wow, to each his own, but FJ6 green is one of my favorite colors of all time. Then again, I love green.

One of the reasons the cars and trucks of the early ’70s appeal to me, is the fantastic bright colours they were available in. I find the green on this one gorgeous, but only because of the era….on a newer car, I’d have no use for this colour.

Love the color! A friend of mine drove one just like this (her father’s car) in high school, but it was yellow. It’s not much as Mustangs go, but kind of cool regardless.

So much 70’s green I actually like it. It would look better with those 1972 Gran Torino five spoke wheels and raised white letter tires.

Great color and car, a well preserved blast from the past. It will turn heads wherever it goes, and I really love the originality. This bright green glow ’73 Mustang reminds me of the one that Mary was going to buy in the Mary Tyler Moore show,(she bought a Yellow Mustang convertible instead) when she decided to trade in the white ’70 Mustang she was driving. Cool car, good luck to the new owner.

I’d rather have one with 5x the miles. Cars aren’t made to sit.

Checking the seller’s feedback and found that the 4340 of the last 12 months are from the same seller??? so he’s buying almost 12 products per day even Saturdays and Sundays? mmm looks suspicious to me.
Anybody knows something about if it’s permitted by Ebay to do this?

Thanks for pointing this out. You can report it from the link in the auction, but there’s no appropriate choice really. I called eBay and reported it. Note, all the feedback except 2 are as a buyer, so he was probably buying a phony item from himself to inflate his feedback. This guy is no doubt, well, not someone you could trust.

29,000 miles over 45 years is 644 miles a year. When I look at the photos the color looks wrong and there is a big difference in color, when you look at the door jams and underside of trunk lid. The underside and engine look more like 129k. Nice car, but I am tired of all the low mileage BS. If the seller obtained it from the original owner why isn’t he posting the paperwork that backs this claim? Certainly a car worth having, but ignore the odometer unless there are a lot of documentation to back up this claim.

I could handle the exterior, but not the green interior. Ugh.

I don’t mind a dark green but not this color green. The 71 to 73 Mustangs just don’t bring the money the first generation do.

Also… Have a look at the 1967 “GT350” with 58,321 miles he is also selling.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/302929328185 I’d really like to hear what you think about this one. “7R01C” Isn’t a “C” code a 200 HP 2 barrel engine? Hey, it’s red and it’s shiny!

True, a C code would imply a 2bbl, but so many of these are clones anyway, it takes more than stickers to prove its pedigree. It’s probably just had a 4bbl carb installed, but that still wouldn’t even bring it up to an A code (factory 225hp 4bbl), which had a higher compression ratio. Much less, a K.

This car has old PA inspection stickers on it from 1985—so it was a PA car before a Texas car.

I love it ! In high school in the mid 80’s, I dated a girl that had one just like this. Same color combo and everything. Was kind of a dog, but I’m sure there’s plenty of aftermarket stuff out there to wake that engine up. She had this green car, I had a green on green 72 Pontiac Grandville convertible with a 455 and white top. Love the 70’s color schemes!

I see the green trees and grass, and a white fence and the asphalt, but I’m not seeing a car anywhere is these photos… oh, wait, there it is! If the cops try to pull you over for an infraction, just park on the grass and the fuzz will fly past you.

    Brings back high school memories.

I had to Google what a 1974 looked like! Really had it in my head that the Mustang II didn’t appear until maybe 77-78… Not sure how I lost track of that…
    Shameful though, right?

I was looking at one last night.

It seemed I was looking at it with new eyes because the proportions looked off to me.

      It was the hatchback model.

The CURRENT mustang should be a hatchback, with that ridiculously small trunk.

Someone else noticed it also….This Texas Pony has spent some time it the Great State of Pennsylvania, (Salty Roads In The Winter) or the windshield is NOT ORIGINAL. From Pittsburgh to the Big D is 1225 Miles unless you had it hauled down on a flatbed that’s more miles that this had put on it in 2 years, if it only has the miles they say it does…..Just Not Adding Up….I’m Out.

Like the 50’s and the later the 70’s there was soooo much Olive Drab to reuse around they were cutting it and using it !

    Nice Stang and color…..

Does anyone know if the rear license plate holder was mounted before the car was painted at the factory? Seems to me it would be mounted on the assembly line not before the paint booth. Seeing it all green just seems to say repainted.
