Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure your aware of how desirable Porsche 911s have become. Like most classic cars, the earliest examples are the most desirable. What makes the 911 stand out from the rest is the fact that even later examples are fetching big money and are highly coveted by collectors, especially Turbo models. This 1987 Porsche 930 has the added bonus of being a RUF tuned Slantnose. Since RUF is currently celebrating its 80th anniversary, we would take another look at this dusty find! You can find it here on eBay in Wylie, Texas with no reserve and a current bid of $51,000.
So, this one isn’t a factory-built Slantnose (930S), rather a RUF conversion with a complete body kit to go along with it, but the seller notes that it’s nose panels are all-steel. Besides the restyling work, RUF also upgraded the engine. The original 3.3l boxer six has likely been bored out to 3.4l and is packing all the needed components to up the turbo boost. The stock 930 Turbo was rated at 282 horsepower, but after RUF did their work, this thing could produce nearly 400 horsepower! That’s more than enough power to get yourself into trouble.
The interior is mostly stock Porsche 930, but RUF installed heated power Recaros wrapped in leather. It’s a great looking color combo and you’re definitely going to need the extra support to stay planted in the seat. It looks like the interior just needs a good detailing and conditioning to be usable. Given how desirable these have become finding parts is quite easy, but they aren’t cheap.
If you are on the hunt for a 930 project, this one might be the find for you. Non-RUF 930s fetch big money, so if this one is a real deal RUF tuned car, it’s easily worth the current high bid. Of course, there are a lot of unknowns here, which is never a good thing when it comes to Porsche 911 Turbos. So, would you take the risk of bidding on this one without seeing it in person? There’s not much time left to the auction, but you might be able to get there and inspect it in time!
Slant noses were never my thing. I’ve driven the old 930’s but prefer a N/A 911 with Webber’s any day, or a nice 993.
Interesting find.
Also interesting that the seller posts a ton of photographs from many angles, but fails to mention a few basics, such as how long it has been since it was run, etc…
Looking at the car, my take is that it was parked under a carport, outside, and stayed there for many years. Why it was parked, or whether the engine is free or not, would seem to be valuable bits to pass on to potential bidders.
This will be a very cool car when running, but will take $$$, plus a few more $$ to get it there, and the paint work won’t be cheap either!
wOWw!🏁 That is a sweet SLANTNOSE!
I would have Traded THREE of my Great Running German ClassiC GRAND SPORT Touring Automobiles for it 🕊️🛸

Vintage barn find dirt might be cool on an old Mustang or Camaro, but the fact that the seller couldn’t take the time to wash this one first is a turn-off for me.
The dirt adds at least 10 grand?
I also prefer the standard front but appreciate what this is.
RUF were big in the day and it sports my favourite Recaros.
Would love to own this!
Guess you could say this one is in RUF condition.
Here it is, the obligatory weekly Dennis Collins overpriced Barn Finds listing.
Why?
Because he find cool cars. He puts in the work most people aren’t willing too.

At least he didn’t call it a holy grail car – LOL!
RUF is now building their own look-alike 911 and they designed the front with the raised headlights like the early standard cars. New car is completely carbon fiber chassis and lots of turbo power. The slant nose cars did pick up top speed but unless you had a place to run wide open on a regular basis the extra cost doesn’t seem worth it. Whoever threw the dirt on the car seems to have missed the front fenders…..
Beautiful car, I would anticipate lots of checking the systems before she is ready to run hard. I have a 1979 930, I‘m still working through the bugs, driven hard and put away for a long time, new turbo, wastegate rebuild, mastercylinder, brake booster, clutch just to name a few. This would be a great project but not inexpensive.
Most normal people don’t put a car like this out to pasture. All that dirt and grime is likely a result of some extended time out in a Federal Marshall’s impound lot due to some bad behavior on the part of the owner. Or , there was a divorce involved. Flood ? Take your pick.
That is being sold by Dennis Collins – Collins Brothers Jeep – probably a great car if he has it.
Darn it ! Sold before I even opened my mail today. @%$# !
I happen to love slant-noses, especially after seeing the Brumos 935s @ Road America several times. (Just read the article about the Museum in Hemmings yesterday.) Have also followed the cars Alois continues to turn out from his shop.
In the “no expense spared” world, this car would be cleaned up, containered, and shipped to the Ruf shop in Germany for suitable mechanical restoration/upgrades. Then pay for/pick up finished car and Auto”bomb” it to all my favorite places across Europe. It’s great to have dreams during COVID, guys !
