Engine Still Turns: 1967 AMC Javelin

This 1967 AMC Javelin is an SST model equipped with a 290 and sold as a parts car. The exterior shows plenty of surface rust, but it’s hard to determine if the corrosion extends underneath. The Javelin is a desirable muscle car, and projects like these may offer someone rebuilding a more deserving candidate a parts rig to pull many obsolete and otherwise impossible-t0-find parts off of. Check out the Javelin SST here on eBay with bidding at $700 and the reserve unmet.

The Javelin is missing its back glass, which likely hasn’t done the backseat any favors. Depending on how long it’s been exposed to weather, the floor beneath the back seat may be perished. The Javelin comes with a 290 V8 under the hood that the seller calls original, but doesn’t confirm whether it’s numbers matching. The roof appears to have a slight buckle in it just above the center of the back glass opening.

Interior-wise, it is said to retain its original seats and center console. The front buckets look surprisingly OK, considering the windows appear to have been left down. The carpets look rough and the door panels may need some work, but overall, a good cleaning may make the biggest difference. The center stack appears to show the original radio and some sort of period tuner accessory.

With bidding at $700, it’s still plenty cheap for a complete parts car. It’d pair perfectly with this nicely patina’d example we have listed here on Barn Finds as an Exclusive. This car comes with a matching 343 that has been removed, automatic transmission, clean interior, and only two (small) spots of rot-through. Buy this one and pick up the eBay car for some spare parts – what could go wrong?

    I’m sure Javelins weren’t made for ’67

Correct, 1968 was the Javelin’s first year. The Marlin was still being built in 1967 and the Javelin replaced it.

I think the first model year was 1968 but introduced in the fall of 1967 . Most car manufactures did that back then. Now they bring them out any time of the year.
What is with the Iroc sitting beside it ?

Radio looks like an AM/FM/cassette unit, what’s beneath it is a Midland 23 channel CB radio.

Rented a later model in the ’70s to go from San Francisco to Portland. Half way up the radio speaker fell out of the dash board. Did make it to Portland but didn’t take time to check what else fell off.

sad to see a javelin in such poor shape. Would make a great parts car, but someone might take it on. could make t anything you wanted. Good luck to the new owner!!!

I’ve owned a lot of cars, including a ’63 Rambler 330, but never owned a Javelin.
A good friend “back in the day” had a ’68 Javelin with a 3-speed column shift. I’d love to do a Javelin, preferably with the flared fenders, those are really cool.

The VIN indicates a 1969 model. 2nd digit is the year of manufacture. Those deluxe three spoke steering wheels are getting tough to find-most are badly cracked like the example here.

I restored one of these for a customer about 25 years ago, and at that time those optional raised hood scoops were not easy to find, I think we ended up spending almost $600 for a nice used pair from Arizona. This will probably make a great parts car for someone restoring one.

I like these cars but I’m always Leary on buying one just because the parts seem scarce!! If it were a 390 with a four speed it might be a better candidate for a restoration but the smaller motor with an automatic not so much!! I guess it’s going to be someone’s parts car like Bill said!!!

By looking at it is a 1969…That is if nothing was touched or removed.
