The “estate sale” has already happened, but it might be worth checking to see if this pile of parts sold. It was once a beautiful MG TF 1500 roadster and its relative rarity could make a restoration justified. Well, that all depends on what all is included. The car has obviously been disassembled, but there isn’t a frame visible in the photo. If you’d like to investigate this one further you can view the craigslist ad here. Thanks goes to Geof F for sending in the tip!
Nope. Put out with the trash.
If IKEA sold MGs lol.
Some assembly required; V8-60 not included… ;-)
Seriously, there are some parts there that could be used on another project or on-sold..
The TD and TF share a lot of parts. In fact, the parts shown in these pics qre pretty much all that is needed to upgrade a TD to a TF. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason these particular parts ended up in this particular garage. Everything needed is right here.
MG built about 26,000 TD’s as opposed to about 5500 TF’s. TF’s draw a lot more money than TD’s because of this rarity and the fact that the TF is a much prettier car. With the parts shown, you could build your own TF.
And the only people who would know are the folks at the NEMGTR and you.
The TF is my favorite of all the T series. If it was a bit closer I might be more curious. I never heard of any of the early MGs until I read The Red Car back in 1965. Of course back then, I was the ripe old age of 12. My older brother coveted a TC and I went with him to check one out. It turned out to be a TF. My brother wasn’t happy but I loved it. Unfortunately I was about $800.00 short of the $900.00 asking price. And it ran…..
Lucky there was a photographer at the crash scene. I hope everyone is OK.
I bought a MG TD from a note in a store in January in Northeastern Ohio. The head was off. I hauled it 2 plus hours home.A friend was a parts manager at an MG dealership. The owner said get rid of all the old stuff. I got for free, including a new red leather interior and a NOS grill shell in a 20 year old box. I did pay $40 for a used rear axle.
Another friend did the head. He knew someone who had to have the car and all the parts. In less than a month, it was all gone. I wasleft with a fat wallet.
Greetings All,
Never knew that about TF’s?
TF’s are a compromise of an early looking body with later mechanical improvements and smaller wheels which look out of place compared to the earlier 18″ units.
The TF was always my favorite looking MG. A few years ago when the national GOF ( gathering of the faithful) conference was being planned in Reno. I had a couple of dinners with the planners. When I mentioned this they all agreed about the body style. But I was dismayed at hearing all the negative remarks about the rest of the car. In their opinion it was the worst car MG ever produced.
As an aside, it was my MGB that was used as the promo vehicle in the video driving under the “Reno Arch” with me at the wheel.
These are relatively easy to find in this condition.
