Euro Delivery Survivor: 1980 BMW 320i

As many of you know, I own a Euro-market 1980 BMW 320 that is part of the E21 chassis family. This clean 1980 320i is an American-market model, complete with a fuel-injected four-cylinder and huge U.S.-mandated safety bumpers. It is in excellent condition, with just one professor owner up until 2013. Find it here on eBay listed with no reserve.

This 320i seemingly retain all of its original equipment, including steel wheels and centercaps, vintage California blue plates and pop-out windows. The polished metal bumpers still present well, even if they are unsightly compared to the slim chrome bumpers found on European models. The chrome strip around the perimeter of both front and rear windows should be replaced – easily done and the parts are still available.

The interior is also in remarkable condition, with beautiful blue vinyl seats and matching door cards. The A/C console – identifiable due to the way it juts out into the cabin – appears to hold an original Blaupunkt radio. The shift knob and steering wheel are also correct for the year and model. The European delivery program adds an interesting storyline to the history of this 320i, but it doesn’t add much value on its own.

The seller has tackled some of the typical “must-do” maintenance for any BMW that’s been slumbering, including a valve adjustment, new radiator / water pump / and thermostat, along with normal updates like plugs and wires. The overall condition of this 320i is impressive, and some “Sport” model trim bits like the front and rear spoilers and BBS wheels will bolt up nicely.

Nice car. However, Like my well maintained 95 525i not much real interest by BMW enthusiasts.

That should keep the price down. Someone could get a beautiful car at a reasonable price, nothing wrong with that.

I had one of these while stationed in Germany. Great little car. Although it didn’t have much top speed or umph it got you where you were going.
