If you needed to haul a lot of people in relative comfort back in the early ’70s, a Ford Club Wagon Chateau would have been one of the best options available. While based on the Econoline, these vans came with air condition, AM/FM radio, optional seating for up to 12 passengers and sweet houndstooth seat upholstery! This one has been parked indoors for the past 12 years, but David H has it running and driving again. It’s going to need some cosmetic work and the carb could use some work, but this could be an interesting project. You can find it in Norfork, Arkansas and you contact David via the form below.
Asking Price: $4,950
Location: Norfork, Arkansas
Mileage: 63,287
Title Status: Clean
VIN: E23GHP5080
Seller’s Description: Very original van. Has been stored inside for the last 12 years.
Body Condition: Interior very good with the exception of driver’s seat needing upholstery, carpet missing and missing rubber on top of the dog house. No cracked glass, rubber seals around glass deteriorated though. Original paint, dents and dings, surface rust on roof but no rot. The front grille is in great condition.
Mechanical Condition: 302 engine runs well and does not smoke. The transmission has been rebuilt and brakes have been redone so that the vehicle is in good running condition. The carburetor could use a rebuild. Tires are old and cracked but have good tread.
Most people overlook vans unless they have wild paint jobs and shag carpet, but this family hauler is surprisingly cool! It would definitely stand out in a crowd and with a little work could be a fun way to get the family to car shows. Hmmm…it has an ‘air condition’ , I wonder what that condition is? 😃
Mom and Dad had 8 kids. This is my earliest car memories I have.
This generation ran from 1968 to 74, where the next ran from 1975 to 91. It’s amazing how quickly they disappeared from the roads. I consider these the Forgotten Econolines.
I bought a new one like this except I ordered i in bright red. With 12 passenger seating we put one kid in each row. Now they couldn’t tease each other. Peace descended upon the family drives. This red ‘bus’ cost more with 12 passenger seating but it was worth every penny,
This appear to have rear air-conditioning, which I would imagine is a pretty rare option. Looks like there’s an extra heater under the back seat as well.
Ours had the rear AC as well which included the heater. We spent a summer in Phoenix and had no complaints from the rear. But… it was less than 2 years old and had about 40k miles.
