Seller Description: This barn find has been stored in the barn since 1990. Runs decent. Very little rust anywhere on the vehicle. If there is any it is surface based. 304 v-8 engine. May need new exhaust. Has four new tires and battery. I have been driving it daily since it came out of barn last month. I think everything is original in it. All light work. Radio does not.
Only body damage is minor to rear and front passages sides as seen in photos. Has original spare tire. All doors and windows are sound. Have both front replacement fenders if needed as well. The seller, Joshua D, might be new to the classic car world but it sounds like he found a great entry classic. His AMC isn’t the most sought after classic, nor is it a pristine survivor. That’s alright though, it’s actually in decent shape and you really don’t see many V8 powered Sportabouts anymore. The last one we spotted was back in 2016, which you can read about here. It was a low mileage car, but that seller was asking more than double than what Joshua is. His is in nearly as nice of nice of shape, with the added bonus of being in a bright color.
Fix the dents, treat any rust you find and give the 304 a good tuneup and you’d have one fun and affordable driver! Heck, if it were closer, I’d be extremely tempted to buy it and make it my daily driver, but Lake Leelanau, Michigan is just a bit too far away. Kool ride,,,fair price to boot,,I just picked up a 77 AMX Hornet last year with the 304.

My wife (girlfriend at that time) was driving an identical 77 red AMX Hornet when I asked her to marry me. She had been driving a blue 75 Gremlin, and had traded (at the prompting/badgering of a sales manager when she had the Gremlin in for service) on the AMX, unbeknownst to me … she had no clue I was about to pop the question! Imagine my surprise when I was expecting a baby blue Gremlin and she shows in a red AMX! :-)
I’d love to find another AMX for her. Our 40th anniversary is coming up at the end of the year and I think a classic AMC would be a great way to say I still love her!
The only thing that would deter me from this one is the lack of A/C which is a must for me during N.E.Ohio’s humid summers due to my COPD. Otherwise it seems like a very decent price for a DD wagon. Are the replacement fenders part of the deal or are those at extra cost ?
How rare is the wagon with a factory V8?
At this price you could easily add aftermarket A/C. I have always liked these wagons, though I’d be more interested in the 4×4 Eagle wagon. This isn’t perfect, but with a little work it could be a nice daily driver.
If you don’t sell it in the next couple of weeks you would want to consider bringing it to Kenosha Homecoming and it will sell there. It’s the Mecca for us AMC freaks.

We had a driveway full of AMC’s in the 70’s end 80’s. On any Sunday when we all got together there could be 7 or 8 depending on who showed up. This is a great car at a great price. Take this to a Friday night car gathering and watch everybody walk right by the Camaros and Mustangs to look at it.

Is there any chance of deleting this article? Please? I only ask because I wanted to include the Hornet in trade on a deal for a different car and the person looked this up and used it as ‘evidence’ that it was only worth $2,500. You know…despite all the repairs I put into it since then! It didn’t even have brakes when I bought it! It stalled all the time! It needed a new exhaust system! I have pages and pages of repair bills now and to value it at $2,500 isn’t cool anymore. I love the car and drive it every non-winter day but I can’t have this ad saying it’s ‘worth’ $2,500 out there anymore.
