EXCLUSIVE: 1994 Toyota 4Runner

While this one is a bit newer than what we typically feature, the seller Martha T has taken such amazing care of this 4Runner that we thought one of you might enjoy having it! She claims it is currently in good driving condition and is ready for the road. While she is a bit attached to it, she just wants to see it go to a good home with one of her fellow readers. So, she doesn’t have an asking price in mind, rather she invites anyone interested in it to make her offers. All offers will be considered, so be sure to message her via the form below with any questions you might have or to make an offer!

What Makes It Special? It has been my constant driver until a couple years ago when I downsized to a Subaru and I still drove it occasionally. It’s a strong, smooth running 5 Speed manual with 4WD. I am the second owner and have had it since 2000, I bought it from a Toyota dealer as a trade in with 60,000 miles. Of course, I am sentimentally attached to it having owned it for so long and it has been a solid companion. Its name is Crazy Horse. I hate to part with it but it’s bigger and more vehicle than I need now so I hope someone would like to give it a new home and make use of it.

Body Condition: Body is pretty good, miscellaneous small scratches. The paint would be pretty good if buffed out. Little to no rust. Interior in good condition, one tear on driver’s seat.

Mechanical Condition: It is mechanically sound, runs strong and quiet. I have service records for everything that has been done to it and the only thing that needs some work is perhaps the gear linkage. It’s a bit stiff to shift anymore. Master and slave cylinders have been replaced. It’s a 5-speed manual. 4WD engages from inside, no locking hubs.

It might have high miles, but these rigs will just keep going if they are well maintained. This is a great looking rig. I find some irony in this, we just purchased a new 2018 4Runner to replace the wife’s Crosstrek that was just totalled out in a hail storm. Good luck with finding her a new home.

I have a soft spot for 4Runners. 3 years ago, I was on the hunt for a 1990-1992 rare 2-Door model with the 22RE 4-Cylinder. I was not successful, but did find a very nice first generation 87 SR5 with 165K. It is accident and rust free California truck. I wish you the best of luck in finding your 4Runner a new home.

Blue book with a quarter million miles on it 1200-1500. Fair retail 1800-2200. Good luck on your sell. Still a nice SUV

Agreed, not worth much more even in very good shape. They do last forever with a little bit of TLC. GLWTS!

My 1998 Tacoma SR5 with half a million miles and two wrecks in it’s history continues to drive better and run amazingly well – I have a hard time thinking that it ran any better when new. No plans to replace it, every dent and scratch tell a very long good story!!

I love my 4Runner Limited, which I have had for over 20 years. I wouldn’t consider anything earlier than a third generation (1996 +) which had a major redesign of the body, chassis and engine. My wife keeps bugging me to buy a new one, but this old beast is a real 4-wheel drive truck with high and low range and can climb up a wall. It takes me and my dog on the beach in soft and wet sand when I am surf fishing and into the Pinelands through some nasty patches of sand, mud and snow. It runs like new with very minimal service, and it has a few scars, just like me. My dog ate the leather seats which are now covered with sheep skins, which he has made peace with. There are a few Mercedes -Benz AMG G65 in my town and I truly believe they have never even touched their tires on wet pavement. Where can you go in a quarter of a million-dollar SUV other than the country club?

Mailman showed up the other day as passenger in a friend’s old Toyota 4 cylinder pickup, original owner, loud, dents, but sounded fine, has over 500,000 miles and engine has never been rebuilt. “A few” clutches. So my 2005 4Runner with only 137,000 milescc has a long way to go!

Had 2 friends with this 2nd gen 4Runner that Toyota had to replace the heads on the 3L V6…but no cost and Toyota stood behind their product. Good luck with GM, Ford, BMW,Benz, st cetera doing that…

My four-banger Toyota has only had the head off once in 500,000 miles – it burned an exhaust valve and the timing chain wore out. My mechanic fixed both at the same time at 350,000 miles. We could still see the cross-hatch hone marks on the cylinder walls. Why on earth get the troublesome V6 – my 4 banger has enough power to exceed 100 mph (personally verified, just don’t ask me where!) and I’ve towed numerous cars from Portland to Scottsdale with it.
