All too often we come across cars that were put away only to be rediscovered as a complete yet rough specimen. Sadly this ’73 Camaro met that fate where it is a complete and well optioned car, but storage was not kind to this split bumper car. With many salvageable parts, this Camaro could be a good parts car or even an ambitious restoration. With no bids, the opening price of this Camaro is $3,300. Check out this project here on eBay out of Henrico, Virginia.
Packing all the options you could desire, this Camaro was a sweet ride back in its day. Packing a 350 V8, a 4 speed manual transmission, and air conditioning, this Chevy must have been a fun drive. Last driven in 1999, the condition of the drivetrain is questionable other than the fact that the engine turns over freely.
Inside you will find a very stylish interior that aged fairly well, but outdoor exposure and mold taken its toll. I imagine the interior could be cleaned up and used for another project, as interior parts for classics can often be a difficult find. The plaid upholstery seems marvelously period perfect, and the 4 speed shift lever sends your imagination to 1973, rowing gears, and jamming to your favorite tunes.
There is no good way to sugar coat the extensive rust this Camaro has accumulated over the years. Although claimed to be a “Barn Find” it is clear that this Chevy spent a lot of time outdoors from the heavily accumulated dirt, leaves, and other vegetation along the wiper cowl, and around the trunks edge. Rust is visible on just about every body panel. One thing to mention is that the floors and underbody have not been mentioned, so I fear for the actual condition of this Camaro. With many good parts, and a sweet interior, what would you do with this Camaro?
Cool old ’73 LT RS Camaro and got to love the split bumper, 4-speed, and AC. I’ve seen worse saved.
A RS comes standard with the short chrome bumperettes
It is redundant (and annoying) to call a Rally Sport a “split bumper”
An appearance option package the RS option is NOT a performance option
Mee too… been round and round. These numbskulls STILL do not understand – it is a RS or a standard- or mostly a standard with the WRONG bumpers. Split this.
Love it! Here’s my ’72 Jeepster. :)
Dang that’s a cool kid car…..
Always liked these. My son owns an original 72 split bumper 350 4 speed with 54k on it. Orange with a saddle interi
they are either a Rally Sport / RS or not. Calling a RS a “split bumper” is like calling your sister a trollop … just saying
Give it to em’ Ale8
split bumper my behind
At least its priced right, for now.
I had the same ,but a auto trans . loved it it was one of the few i finished. kept it burnt orange but did the 5 spoke z-28 wheels and low spoiler with z-28 stripes.
I was very proud of it.
some time i will figure out downloading pics. since i have a lot of stuff i got in the late 80s-now. Got a chance to to get a 66 Pontiac 2+2 vert for $2500 with lots of parts,no engine, but the guy has a line on a correct 421 tri-power for $600 (short block.) I just don’t move stuff as i used to. I want to save it,but its a resto. project and needs a good home.
I had a ’75 350-4 spd. Of course the power was way down by then (something like 145 hp net…god….) and Detroit was still working on the emissions thing so it did a couple of weird things from time to time…but it was still a nice car. I’m afraid this one is just a little too far gone..I’d take the engine and tranny out of it plus any other usable parts and try to find a decent donor car to put them all into…
Agreed, I think you’d be better off in the long run to find another shell and transfer everything over. I think this body is too far gone. Everything can be fixed…….but at what cost??
I am astonished the textile upholstry component is still intact. I recall Porsche tried this in the 70s and it was a disaster. This car has great potential.
Good resto for someone.
This is not the original cloth interior. The original would have been a small herring bone design, not this god-awful mess.
It might be 9 years of work, I would restore it. Right down to it’s Hang Ten Ocean Pacific plaid. It’s a shame that some guys hang onto a car for dear life and never sell it to anyone and the car goes to S@#%. It’s just like some old guys who have high blood pressure and a beer gut, thinking that they are just a few set ups away from being Arnold Schwarzenegger. Dog in the manger.
Seeing that interior while nursing a hangover would make me start to drink again. A nice car that appears a bit too far gone for me to want it. Great that it’s a real RS and not a plain Camaro that some mook transplanted RS bumpers to.
Wish we had this one back.
1976 we had a ’73 Z.
Mid to late 70’s I had a 71 Z/28 non R/S car I was going to be one of those mooks that put split bumpers on a non RS 😁 car never got around to it though sold in 1980
lol, they look so goofy that way
embrace it for what it is
I’d use the parts for my ’71 project car. Even things like the four-spoke steering wheel are getting spendy these days.
Brought back memories of a ’73 Z-28 my dad’s boss let him use. Stock looking 350 but it had a very rough idle, 4 speed car too. He once offered it to me for probably a few thousand bucks, but the very healthy cam wreaked havoc on the power brakes and at the time (’83) those Camaros were everywhere, just didn’t interest me then. Would love to have it now.
In 1973 I bought an LT/RS. The only two boxes on the order sheet that I didn’t check were Z28 and 4 speed. What a great car!
I still have it. 68K mile original.
I had a 1972 Camaro with a 307/4BBL carb and headers… Loved the car, ran it to death and it never complained… the worst part of it was every time you looked at it, you found new rust….
When I see a Camaro with a split bumper I call it a split bumper Camaro🤷🏻♂️ Who cares really…just a nice looking car is all.
