Factory Fuel Injection! 1962 Chevrolet Corvette

Most vintage fuel-injected or “fuelie” Corvette projects come with retrofitted carburetors, a quick fix back in the day when these were just used cars changing hands for small money. Even among Chevrolet dealers, only some GM-trained fuel injection mechanics fully embraced the Rochester fuel injection system. This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette in Greenville, New Hampshire benefited from a restoration started more than a decade ago and comes with a 1962 fuel injection unit. Most cars we feature begin at absolute ground zero, but this one has a leg up on the usual rust buckets, and not just because the body is fiberglass. Bidding here on eBay has engaged at least 13 bidders, with the number to beat surpassing $12,500.

The clean garage and organized presentation bode well for not getting snookered, as does the seller’s 100% positive rating dating back to 1999. All Corvette engines for ’62 displaced 327 cid (5.4L) and the Rochester “Ram Jet” system topped them all with a lofty 360 HP, according to CorvetteMuseum. The date-coded 1962 Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission will make the ideal way to wring out the high-strung fuelie V8.

Originally Roman Red with a red interior, this fuel-injected ‘Vette was one hot looker as well as having the hot motor under the hood. Undercarriage photos show solid metal and a job well begun. Despite the rough look, this drop-top has a bright future among the caviar and chardonnay set.

While a number of hard-to-find parts come with the car, that list does not include an engine block or cylinder heads. Everything here is staged for the sale, and no one will buy this one to fulfill their dream of building a bitchin’ pro-touring ride. Where would you cruise after restoring this sweet fuel-injected ‘Vette?

I’d do it up as a 350 Fuelie if I could somehow retrofit the original looking Fuel Injection piece to electronic Injection, cherry out the body , paint it the original Red , do the interior in the original Red too. Basically do it all original looking with an electronically fuel injected 350, Oh yeah, I’d use Cragar SS’s and 4 wheel disc brakes. I would drive it every day I could, a daily driver.

THis could be a money maker. A stock 62 Fuelie is worth money. Good project for the owner of a body shop or a place that restos corvettes

I have a friend in Seaside CA who converts these to modern injection using a Holley controller. Hardly tell the difference from stock. Good looking conversion and no fussing around with the old injection problems. The one he his working on now is a ‘61 with a 383 stroker. All looks original.

Love to see a video of that bad boy banging through the gears after the resto is finished! That would be one to drive!
