What does it say about a certain era of car buyers that they were swayed into buying a car due to special trim and colors? It seems like the 1980s represented the peak period of manufacturers attempting to entice customers into showrooms by adding colors, some interior trim, and maybe a giveaway or two. How many of you got a novelty item of some kind from a local dealership in this time period? However, these special editions have become quite collectible in some cases, as is the case with this one-of-205 Weissach Edition Porsche 928s that is being sold by the original owner.
Now, Porsche was not exactly known for creating purely cosmetic special editions, but clearly, this model was an exception. The 928 was already an over-developed super car and/or grand tourer (depending on your perception of the model) when this Weissach Edition was rolled out in the early 80s, but apparently Porsche felt compelled to provide some extra encouragement for shoppers considering the likes of the Jaguar XJS or the Mercedes-Benz W126 coupes. The Weissach models got a full leather interior, including the dash and console, along with special Hellbronze Metallic paint, brushed gold alloy wheels,, and a plaque on the dash.
Engine-wise, the 4.5L V8 was unchanged, kicking out a very healthy 220 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque. The seller notes that this 928 is made rarer still for having the desirable “dog leg”-style manual gearbox, and that there are zero signs of rust on the chassis. Incredibly, there are still traces of the factory cosmoline treatment visible. The listing provides some great insights into how special these cars are, but I didn’t see much info regarding maintenance history. Still, you can take comfort in the fact that the 928 apparently retains its factory body panels and original paint throughout.
The most impressive detail of all is that the seller has retained the original factory 3-piece luggage set that came with every Weissach Edition, and it has apparently never been used, right down to retaining the paper stuffing inside the suitcases themselves. There are no pictures included, but the set shown here sold for $1,750. The seller would be wise to include a photo of the Seeger-supplied luggage, as it would make this rare Weissach edition even more of a standout. Still, with this model being a rare bird among special edition Porsches and coming with the elusive manual gearbox, it doesn’t need much help being an attractive purchase for the Porsche collector. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Mitchell G. for the find, which is listed here on craigslist.

I’m sorry, everyone – this is on me, and being sleep deprived. I’ve updated the article with the listing. With close to 9,000 posts on the site, I believe I have fewer than 5 where I’ve forgotten the link, so your forgiveness is appreciated. ;-)
Oookkayyy..
Yur forgiven, Jeff.
Phew! TY, Billy!
Say, Jeff. Question.
How does a car become #211 in a 205 car production run?
I did okay in junior high algebra. Maybe not so good in sixth grade math.
Just figuring.
Thanks again.
Wait, you want me to be good at math, too? You people need to adjust your expectations.
Clearly, not correct, but it’s what the seller provided, soooo….
