Factory V8 Short Box: 1976 Ford F-100

Factory short-box pickups from the 1970s are fairly rare and in high demand. In turn, trucks like this 1976 Ford F-100 command a premium price. This one can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $7,700. If you decode the VIN number, it all checks out as being a real V8 F-100. There are literally dozens and dozens of photos in the ad, which pretty clearly document the condition of the truck. Located in Monaca, Pennsylvania, if you’ve been looking for a classic Ford short box, this might be the one for you. Take a look.

The interior is probably “driver quality” with a re-covered seat and aftermarket steering wheel. You can tell the door panels are probably original, but the steering column needs to be refurbished. Oddly, this truck should be a column-shift automatic, but there is a floor shifter installed.

The truck originally came with a 302 cubic inch V8 from the factory that was topped with a 2bbl carburetor. The ad indicates the engine and transmission are “new” but are “about 3 years old” so hopefully, the seller can clarify that. You can see there is a power brake booster and power steering pump, which are nice features to have on these heavy trucks.

The tan and white paint job probably isn’t for everyone, but it doesn’t look bad. An updated set of wheels and tires would probably transform the look of the truck. It also appears that paint could use a good wax job (or two). What do you think of this one?

This is likely a great truck, deserving of proper preparation for sale. At least vacuum the damn thing. Kind of surprised the bidding is as strong as it is with a presentation like this.

Nice looking truck. If it goes for top bid price listed it would be a decent deal.

I’ve had two ’76 F100s. The first was a SWB 2×4, equipped with the 360 V8 and a three-on-the-tree tranny. The second was a LWB 2×4 with the 300 straight six and an automatic transmission. Both were decent trucks.
