Fashionable Find: 1975 Lincoln Mark IV Cartier Edition

Cartier Edition Lincoln

When you hear the word Cartier you probably picture things like watches and jewelry, but back in the seventies, Ford wanted you to picture Lincolns. To drum up sales in the mid-seventies, Lincoln teamed up with a bunch of big name designers to release a couple of special edition cars. They were basically well-optioned Mark IVs in special colors with the designer’s name thrown on here and there. Still, I know from my wife that woman love this hue of blue. She would call it Tiffany blue and apparently it’s pretty popular these days. Heck, you can even buy Tiffany blue tennis shoes! So, as would be expected, this car is currently owned by a woman. The seller’s aunt, in fact, and she has had it since brand new. It’s only covered 43k miles and is claimed to be all original. The car is listed here on eBay with a $6,000 asking price, but apparently the owner is anxious to sell and will hear any reasonable offer. Just think, your wife might even approve of this one!

My Cousin bought one new for $12,500. I was 15 and thought how crazy to spend so much for a car! This one looks and sounds like it would be a good one.

I don’t think you can go wrong on this one. Seems like the high end of the market, but given the condition it’s worth it. It’s always a better idea to buy a well preserved car than to try and bring one back.

there seems to be some question about it being a Cartier Edition, and car is not running, 6k is to much for a car that the seller has not tried to start/get running.

All of the pics are from 2005, I bet the buyer will be in for a surprise.

Funny you should mention that. Ten years can bring a heckuva big change to paint, panels, interiors, etc. And usually not a change for the better.

Wow – the ad wound up a few Lincoln heads! – nearly always mint and low mileage – I think a lot had probs with those dumb Motorcraft 4300D emission carbs (I know I did!) and sat – also owned by people who had lots of cars (and space) – good on fuel – when they ran properly – not nearly as good as previous year Fords, you know stuff falling off etc – questionable styling ( those bars!!!! ) Always popping up like this – I even had one in Australia with 20 000 miles 3 years ago

Would it kill you to research before publishing? The car is NOT a Cartier Edition, it is a Mark IV with a Cartier clock. Not so unusual, as EVERY Mark IV produced between 1972 and 1976 had a Cartier clock. Every single one.

Even when the real Designer Editions began- in 1976, NOT 1975- every single one of them- even the Bill Blass, Givenchy and Emilio Pucci Editions- had a Cartier clock.

Attached is a photo of the first Cartier Edition- from 1976, which was offered in only one combination- triple dove gray.

There is a yellow one of these that goes to the Monday night cruise in Erie pa. I actually like these. If this one ran I might be interested if the price was negotiable. Would look good next to my 91 mark vii Bill Blass w/41k on it.

I am storing a green Mk VII Bill Blass for a friend, that runs well, but the clearcoat is going away, I am sure it is for sale, I have no idea of the value though.

Mine, the clear is gone too. Also has some failing interior pieces but otherwise in great condition. Was stored outside for years by the second owner. Mine is electric current red with the ugly canvas top on it. Great driving cars. Not many 91 Bill Blass’s made. I use mine as a driver when I don’t use the company truck.

Nice looking and I like the big land barge’s from this era. Have to agree with a few others that the pictures are ten years old and they were taken in Nevada. The car is now in Northern CA, I would have to see this in person or at the least some current pictures, to determine a reasonable value. How difficult would that be to add some current pictures?
