Featured Find: 1986 Corvette With Only 3,500 Miles!

Removable Roof

This Corvette may be a little newer than what we typically feature, but it could also be the nicest ’86 still still in existence. It’s claimed to have sat in someone’s climate controlled collection for the past 29 years and to have only chalked up 3,500 miles since new! So, if you have ever wanted to own a brand new 1986 Corvette, this could be the closest you are going to get today. The car is located in Allenhurst, New Jersey and is listed here on eBay where bidding is really starting to heat up.

Window Sticker

The included window sticker makes it easy to see the options list and original selling price. With over $4k worth of add-ons, this was a very well optioned Corvette. It should be interesting to see if it actually sells for more than it did when new though. The MSRP in 1986 was $31,687, so if you were to adjust that for inflation this car would retail for $68,762 today!

C4 Design

A base Corvette in 1986 would have set you back $27,027. That may sound like a bargain today, but if you adjust that number for inflation it comes out to $58,650. So, I guess the new 2015 Stingray could be considered a relative  bargain at $55k? Anyway, enough math. Let’s talk about the car.

Bronze Leather Bucket Seats

This car is striking with its custom two-tone paint and removable roof. I bet it’s even more breathtaking in-person though. There may still be a lot of these cars on the road, but when was the last time you saw one this pristine? The bronze colored leather seats look like new and I bet they feel great.

Digital Gauges

The C4 design that was introduced in ’84 was a lot different than the cars that had come before it. Plastic bumpers went on the front and back and this fancy digital display went in where the gauges used to be. I’m sure that a lot of Corvette guys hated the changes, but most people must have loved them because they sold quick a few. The C4 still wasn’t as popular as its predecessor though and current vales typically reflect that fact.

1986 Corvette Survivor

This particular car is different though. The low mileage and excellent condition are going to drive the price up higher than these would normally go for. It probably won’t see much seat time while in the care of its next owner as it will be consigned to another climate controlled garage. The next owner will still have a fun time experiencing what it felt to drive a brand new one of these back in 1986 though. Some of us like to drive our cars, some like to collect them, but in the end it’s all just an experience we are looking for. And if you haven’t experienced a time warped car like this yet, I would definitely recommend it.

      (Yawn…)

Wake me up when the “Low Mileage Corvette Show” is over. I don’t want to miss the next action-packed adventure of “Watching Paint Dry” on the History Channel.

I would love to own one of these, but so many of them came with automatics that it’s a hard car to find in the configuration I’d like. Still, great example of a survivor-grade ‘Vette.

A Corvette with an automatic is like going hunting with your accordion.

You know if you take an accordion on a hunting trip you might be able to have a fun time around the campfire at night after a day of hunting. So if can play one and you like to hunt your buddies will likely invite you every time.

My sister played the accordian…….she played it so poorly that the rest of us thought it was deadly to listen to….

I bet she would have been a killer hunter with that thing…animals would have run head on into trees just to end their suffering…

I bought an 84 new right when they came out. In retrospect, I should have spent the money on a nice C2 coupe. While ahead of their time in the day, nothing real collectible or valuable. The only thing that makes this car worth any serious money is the low mileage. Buy it, drive it, and it becomes just like all the rest.

At present, I think the C4 offers a great entry into what I consider true sports car ownership. One day (but not anytime soon), I think the market will catch up with these and they will become more sought-after, with the exception of the ’84 version as it was not quite ready for prime time when released.

I agree with the comments that these cars WILL become collectible in the future, and if you want an inexpensive C-4, now’s he time to pick one up.
    They certainly are plentiful!

I think the one thing people forget when ever there is a 70’s car on the table is that the tech has jumped way ahead since they were built. Now I know that there are some of you that believe that a classic like this should remain original at all costs, but I say that if we’re just going to junk them anyway why not restomod them and have some fun with them.

Heavy, unattractive and typical of the time period. No collectability unless you still wear white shoes and extra wide ties.

These give a bad image of the term “sport car”.

Drive this, then drive an ’86 Porsche 911 coupe……..then you’ll know what a sport car is.

I wonder what the price difference was on the two previously mentioned vehicles.

The corvette was not great, but it was what GM offered us.
