Chevrolet’s cars were all new in 1959, sporting “batwings” that made for a much sleeker product than the year before. And the Impala would lead the way as a series all its own. One of the biggest sellers was the 4-door family sedan like the one here. This ’59 Impala may have been sitting in this field for years, sans an engine or transmission. We know little about it otherwise, except that it’s in Espanola, New Mexico, and is available here on craigslist for $5,000. This tip comes to us via Barn Finder Mitchell G.
Given that the front clip of this Chevy wears different paint than the rest of the car, we assume it was once hit in the front. Whether that has anything to do with the MIA powertrain would be pure speculation. The body doesn’t appear to be rusting away which would be a plus as a donor, but this would be a lot of coin to pay for a 4-door sedan with zero power. What little we see of the interior looks like a lost cause.
The shift pattern on the steering column suggests the transmission was a 2-speed automatic. But was it paired with a 235 cubic inch inline six or a V8 like Chevy’s 283? It’s too bad the seller doesn’t try very hard to sell this vehicle as its description is as thin as they come. Will this 4-door 1959 Impala ever find a new lease on life?
Too many zeroes in that price.
looks like a 1959 Bel aire to me it’s not a Impala
there’s no roof trim. That’s the giveaway.
plus size trim different dash different steering wheel different
Nice glass and tail lights, but not for 5K. More of a “please get it out of my yard” proposition.
If I could get prices like these, I could sell half my cars and live pretty good while working on the other half of my cars!
This one is a 1959 Chev Bel Air not Impala. Nothing on it is worth saving.
