Find An AMC Rebel Machine For The 4th!

1970 AMC Rebel Machine Ad

For those of us who live in the United States, today is a special day. Most of us will spend the day eating and the night shooting off fireworks. It’s a good time and I wanted to do a special feature to commemorate the event. When I tried to come up with one car that could be considered the most “American”, one immediately popped into my head. The AMC Rebel Machine! It’s red, white, and blue color scheme mimics our flag. Power is provided by most American’s engine of choice – a V8. And the manufacturer’s name couldn’t possible get more American. Well, after coming up with a car, I had a hard time finding one for sale online. So, I thought this might be a good chance for all you to put your sleuthing skills to work. In between stuffing your face with hotdogs and lighting firecrackers, take a few minutes and try to find an example of one of America’s most American muscle cars. Please leave your discoveries in the comments below. Have fun and here’s wishing you all a happy and safe 4th of July!

Years ago, for Musclecar Enthusiast, I did a feature on a Matador Machine, a one-year-only offering from AMC.

Thanks for this, Rich. Like most others I had no idea this car existed. It looks killer! I’m not an AMC guy, but I like the S/C Rambler, the Rebel Machine, and of course the AMX. Now I like another AMC muscle car, and I really think it looks great.

Three right here Jesse, all going to auction with no pricing and nothing resembling a project. $35k to $40k for each of these?

Two of those cars show up on other sites like Hemmings et.al. but nothing remotely what you would consider an affordable BF project.

Happy 4th of July to you and your family, and to all the USA readers; the Machine would be great to cruise around in today!

I have an original model car kit of the machines older, smaller cousin. The sc/rambler. My father drove home an all blue machine one weekend when he was service manager for Key AMC jeep in Albuquerque.

I’m wishing all your American readers a happy Fourth of July. Here in Canada, we just celebrated Canada Day on July 1st. I missed a car cruise night on the 2nd due to an abundance of alcohol in my system! ( no drinking and driving) have fun, stay off the roads.
