Fleet Of Finds In Modesto California

1954 Chevy 210 Wagon

As Josh related in a recent post, vintage car finds can be loners or come in groups. There’s a very large assemblage of them for sale here on craigslist in Modesto, California that was brought to our attention by Gary E. I think there’s something for just about everyone in this ad! Maybe this 1954 Chevrolet 210 wagon with vintage California license plates trips your trigger?

1963 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88

Most of the cars are described as being in “parts car” or “not running, mostly complete” condition, with a few being slightly better. This 1963 Oldsmobile Dynamic 4-door hardtop is listed for $2,195. The seller doesn’t explain how or why the collection was accumulated, only that they are for sale. They range in age from a 1947 Studebaker Champion four door sedan for $1,495 to a 1979 Buick LeSabre Estate Wagon for $595. The LeSabre isn’t the only inexpensive find, as prices range all the way down to $395 for a 1963 Rambler Classic four-door.

1965 Ford Mustang

Although this Mustang is priced at $2,195, it’s not the most expensive car there, as the 1963 Studebaker Grand Turisimo comes in on top at $3,995. Still, with no car on this list costing over $4,000, surely there’s a bargain there to please all of you? The Mustang is a 1965 with a 6-cylinder and a 3-speed. Want another one, Jesse and Josh?

1965 MGB

Foreign makes include MG, Jaguar and BMW. Domestics are represented by Ford, Packard, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Studebaker, Rambler, Mercury, Willys, Pontiac, Plymouth, Packard, Oldsmobile, Lincoln and Buick. I’m not sure what the collector saw in this eclectic group of cars, but I’m glad folks have the opportunity now to rescue these out-to-pasture wayward cars. This MGB has California black plates and looks fairly decent with the earlier all-chrome overriders and what I think is an aftermarket hardtop. I wonder what happened to the MG logo usually on the top bar of the grille. The seller says it is a 1965 model and wants $2,195.

1967 Chevy Corvair

It’s pretty obvious from looking at the picture of this Corvair that it’s been there for a while. But it’s the prettier (to me) late body style, a two door, and at least from this angle it’s pretty straight. The seller is asking $1,495 for it and says it’s a 1967 model. The rust on the hood is so even it looks like paint! The 1973 BMW Bavaria behind the Corvair is listed without a price, but is an unusual 4-speed/air conditioned car. Ultimately, none of these cars are spectacular finds, but any one of them could be restored or at least made to run and drive again. Are any of you in this area willing to go take a look for us and report back in the comments?

These are great starter car’s for a family, dad and child, (adult or young), or a single effort to take a classic of sorts to a frame off restoration project. Not too expensive to do, parts would be readily available. Good find.

The Lincoln Versailles would make a good donor car with its 9″ rear end and 4 wheel disc brakes. The 302 engine might be a core or rebuilt.

Even in Modesto, storing a car flat on the ground is a bad idea.

The Cadillac in the background of the MGB picture and the BMW saloon in the background of the Corvair pictures are the ones for me. Amazing that they have survived so well.
