We spend most of our time hunting around for cars, but every once in while we stumble across other gems. Boats, RVs, and pedal cars have all graced these pages, so we invite you to keep sending any out of the ordinary discoveries our way. Old cars will always be our main focus, but variety is the spice of life so you never know what might show up here. I was hunting around for some garage “decorations” today and found some really neat vintage signs. This Ford Service sign is amongst my favorites. It is 72 inches wide and supposedly from the ’30s! Bidding here on eBay is already too rich for my blood though. Keep reading for a few more sign finds.
Here is one for the Chevy guys! This Chevrolet Service sign is from the same seller and is claimed to be from the same era. It’s 40 inches wide and double sided, so I could see this hanging from the ceiling in a tall garage. Or perhaps you could rig up an arm to mount it outside? After paying a pretty penny, I doubt anyone will want to go exposing it to the elements though. Take a look here on eBay where it is listed without reserve. It should be interesting to see which sign goes for more. What’s your guess – Ford or Chevy? As with any big purchase online, you should always do your research before jumping in. Here’s a page that talks a little about how to identify an authentic porcelain sign.
Some of these old signs go for surprising amounts of money! Manufacturer signs like the ones shown above will always be the most valuable, but sometimes you can find automotive product signs for much cheaper. Spark plugs, tires, and oil are all good places to look. Neon signs with that iconic flying Pegasus on them can get be pricey, but smaller Mobilgas plaques like this usually aren’t too bad. This one appears to be in great shape too, so it might end up being an affordable option. Find it here on eBay where the auction ends in less than 24 hours. Please let us know how you feel about us featuring other types of items and what sorts of things you would like to see here.
anything auto related is interesting to me. when photos get posted on the site i search the background for signs etc. we used to shoot old signs that had been given to us because no one wanted them! now there is a whole hobby collecting them.
same sign, still in action in Meridan CT
