Forgotten 1984 Ford Mustang GT350 20th Anniversary

Anniversary Mustangs always seem to attract attention, especially when they surface after decades out of the spotlight. This 1984 Ford Mustang GT350 20th Anniversary Edition, listed on Facebook Marketplace in Olney Springs, Colorado, is being offered as a project for $6,500. According to the seller, the car has been stored indoors for more than 30 years and remains a genuine GT350 anniversary model, making it an interesting find for Fox-body enthusiasts.

Ford introduced the GT350 package in 1984 to commemorate the Mustang’s 20th anniversary. The seller notes that approximately 5,260 GT350 anniversary cars were produced, giving these special-edition Fox bodies a place in Mustang history that collectors continue to pay attention to today. According to the listing, this car retains its original Oxford White exterior, factory GT350 graphics, and anniversary fender badges. The seller describes it as completely factory-original and says that many of the GT350-specific trim pieces and graphics are still present. Those details can be important, as anniversary-specific components are often some of the hardest items to locate years later.

The car is listed with 116,000 miles and an automatic transmission. The seller states that it has the desirable 5.0-liter V8 setup but advises buyers to verify drivetrain specifics for themselves. That’s always good advice with any older project car, especially one that has reportedly spent decades in storage.

As with many long-stored vehicles, the listing is upfront about a few issues. The seller mentions damage to the interior and to a rear fender. They also note that the car has no major rust. Beyond those statements, the ad doesn’t provide extensive details about the condition, so prospective buyers would likely want to request additional photos and information before making any decisions.

What’s appealing here is the combination of rarity and originality. Fox-body Mustangs have become increasingly popular in recent years, and special-edition cars tend to draw even more interest. Finding an anniversary GT350 that the seller claims remains factory original and has been tucked away indoors for decades is the kind of story that gets enthusiasts paying attention. This doesn’t sound like a finished collector car ready for a show field tomorrow. Instead, it appears to be the sort of project that could appeal to someone who appreciates the Fox-body era and enjoys tracking down unusual Mustang variants. The seller describes it as having strong collector potential, and the rarity of the anniversary package certainly adds another layer of interest.

For Mustang fans, part of the appeal may simply be preserving a piece of Ford’s 20th-anniversary celebration before it disappears. Opportunities to buy genuine GT350 anniversary cars don’t come along every day. Would you keep this 1984 GT350 as original as possible, or would you build it into the Fox-body you’ve always wanted?

Wow.. i don’t get it. You could of gotten more since its a 5 speed V8. If you took it out and washed it well. Meguires spray detail wax would shine that paint up. And clean up the interior. What is the big deal in doing that!? I also notice its … Pending … so he has a buyer on the hook. I was surprised to see single exhaust tip on the left side. I thought the V8 had duals? Anyway Good luck to the next owner. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿป

I thought the same thing Big Bear. He has the picture of it sitting all these years covered in dust like you said roll it out and clean it up. These 1980s GT Mustangs are going up in value.

I think there is a clear separation for which Fox body Mustangs are going up in value. I think the 1986 and later fuel injected cars over time will continue to outpace the earlier carbureted versions. The later models came with the World class T5โ€™s, roller cams, revised rear suspension, 8.8โ€ rear ends. The later 1980โ€™s was also when the Camaro/Firebirds started using the TPI 305 and 350โ€™s. Nearly every month some performance oriented magazine would do a comparison or a shootout with either stock example or modified versions of the Mustang versus an F-body. The drag strip staging lanes were full of those mid to late-1980โ€™s Mustangs for decades, it wasnโ€™t until the mid-2010โ€™s that they started being replaced by the Coyote 5.0 equipped Mustangs.

“I was surprised to see single exhaust tip on the left side. I thought the V8 had duals?”

1982-’84 5.0s had a single exhaust. ’85s had dual exhaust outlets in back but a “Y” into a single catalytic converter up front and then another “Y” into the dual outlets. 1986-up had a true dual exhaust.

Before you take the pictures. You clean off all the dirt, dust, grime, and all that other crap from being stored for 30 years. And also getting rid of those ridiculous wheels and tires would definitely help selling this vehicle.

The white with red stripes and interior GT 350 made for an eye-catching package for the sixth year of the four-eye Foxes. This one is kind of a mixed bag. Sitting thirty years isn’t good, but perhaps it can reasonably be brought back. At least it has the preferred 5.0 5-speed powertrain, though with high miles. I hope the new owner gives it some love.

I would attempt to rescue it but not at the $6k asking price maybe $2500 bucks because of to many unknown for rodent damage and other issues

It looks likeT tops to me. An interesting side note. When a Ford service manager in the middle and late ’80s. I was updating our “Service Bullitens” book. And found that the very first official Ford service bulletin (#1) was issued for water leaks from “T” tops. I don’t remember what year and for what car. (Mustang II?) BUT with all the smog gizmos from the malaise days. It was a body “TSB” that was number 1.

I just don’t understand leaving dust and crap on the car. There is no reason for that. If/when it sells it will need to be cleaned up anyway. Is anyone seriously going to make an offer the way it is in the first place though? This is just illogical.

    A 5.0 5spd with 4lug is a sad excuse for a GT350โ€ฆ

They were all that way (’79-’90) except the SVO. (4 lugs that is) And the fuel injected cars had a lot more power than these. Of all the Fox body Mustangs and Capris that I’ve had. ( in the neighborhood of 30) and all that I have seen during my time as a service manager at a Ford store. I NEVER saw a failure due to too few lugs attaching the wheels to the car. Now I’m certain that really big horsepower or very stickey tires used in a roadrace environment could be an issue. And in all my years in the automobile business normal Joe Blow usually does more damage to street vehicle’s than I have ever accomplished in my road racing and pro rally days. So, really the only thing 4 lugs vs 5 lugs does is sometimes limits available wheel use.

Unfortunately no 5 spd. Elizabethโ€™s write up says with an automatic. Sad.
Iโ€™m in the โ€˜how hard would it be to clean it up a bitโ€™ camp. Even if you can only brush it off. Somebody wants it though, pending.
    Price seems reasonable.

As mentioned, these anniversary cars barely garner a few more bucks over a similarly equipped GT, but are not particularly valuable at this time. In the 4-eye range, the 83-84 GTs are in a “value valley” compared to the first year 82’s, and the more powerful 85-86s. This actually makes them a good value as they still run pretty strong with their 5.0 Holley 4bbl and 5 speed drivetrains.

As for this example, I would never pay close to that for an AOD/CFI car at this level of disrepair. And God help with those chrome fender flares
