Forgotten For Decades: Multiple MGBs

MGB GT shed stash

The other day I walked into a local auto parts store and asked the young man at the counter for some parts for my MGB. He gave me a puzzled look, so I said the letters slowly, “M. G.”. He quickly replied that he had never heard of an MG. Well, now I was the one with a puzzled look on my face. With over half a million MGBs produced, how could anyone not know about one of the world’s most famous sports car manufacturers? Will the day come when the octagon will all but be forgotten? This stash of MGBs that was recently pulled out a shed do not give me much hope for the future. The pair of GTs are listed here on eBay with bidding starting at $1k and roadster is listed here with bidding starting at $600. No mention is made of the other two cars lurking in the background though. Thanks goes to Jim S. for the tip!

These cars may be too far gone to justify the cost of a full restoration, but hopefully they can used to keep a few other cars on the road. At the very least I hope that a few young people will see this and have a desire to learn more about what the magic that was MG.

The starting price is $1000, i see two rust buckets and not worth the asking price for the pair.

Buy these and you’re instantly underwater for as long as you own them.
Waaaaay too many of these available in decent condition to bother.

Love the video. Makes me want to go right out and buy an MG. Just not these two.

I thought I would share a discovery I made in a town called Hanover. I was looking for my cat and I found this huge shed with big sliding doors. I thought the cat may have crawled into this building so I pulled the door open a crack to discover 3 MGB road racing cars, their was also a early 80’s Saab and some vintage dirt bike and bicycle parts. This happend nine years ago but I will never forget the feeling I got when I saw those cars.

I had two kids recently ask me what my car was. The first was the sales guy at Discount Tire as I was getting new tires for it. The other was at a pizza joint. The pizza Gus was 17 or so and not in the industry. The tire guy, young 20s, I’d say. So if you thing about it, MG left the country a minimum of 10 years before he was born.

Working at a car place, you assume he’s a car guy. If he’s a muscle car/American car guy, I understand him not knowing. But don’t you think a Japanese car guy/tuner should know about a little about the competition that they destroyed?

BTW, I bought the cheapest 185/70R14s they had. They are really nice, much better than the 10 year old Kumhos that I had on the car.

Off subject, but you reminded me of a scratch your head story, sorry in advance, We went to our membership warehouse, looking for Welch’s Sparkling cider. Went to a manager’s kiosk, and asked if she may have known where it was located. She decided to look it up on the computer, asked again the name, I again said Welch’s Sparkling Cider. She asked, with her fingers poised to search, “How do you spell that?” I asked ” how do you spell Welch’s? She nodded…. my wife took over from there.
