Free 1981 Toyota Sunchaser!

sc2

I realize this 1981 Toyota Sunchaser (based on a Celica) is not the most complete car, but what’s there looks solid and it’s the best price of all–free! It’s located in northern Virginia near Washington DC, and is listed here on craiglist for FREE.

Thanks goes to Jonathan W. for sending us this great find! The Sunchaser was a near-convertible conversion on a standard Toyota Celica. The owner says it needs to go today, so don’t delay if you’re interested. It doesn’t even look rusty! The Sunchasers were produced from 1979 to 1981 on Celicas, with no mechanical modifications apart from the roof. An enthusiast’s site here states that no more than 2,000 were produced. I’m assuming the targa band was to retain rigidity without requiring a lot of reinforcement. But does it really matter? It’s free!

A set of doors and a top, and you’re back in business–and maybe those are under the tarp! Let us know if you pick this one up!

Judging by how high it sits, you will need an engine, transmission and who knows how many little pieces to put this back togethrr.

Are you sure, Grant? It didn’t look like a raised ride height to me. Hopefully it’s in there…

I’m not sure, no but I’ve had Celicas of this generation and it looks high to me. Check the difference in gaps between the wheel and fender in the front compared to the back. Ad doesn’t say if it runs or not, though.

You’d want and engine/gearbox swap anyway. This site is called Barnfinds not Car Dealer Pristine Trailer Queens. Finds here are going to need work/parts/TLC.

Reminds me of a Lancia Beta.

The only thing worth having out of this is the motor and trans as a potential for a British car missing it’s heart. Other wise your paying to get rid of this for the guy that owns it, no wonder it’s free.

There’s one of these listed on craigslist in Orlando. The price is $2500.
