Fully Loaded Lariat: 1986 Ford F-250 XLT

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The “bullnose” Ford F150 is quickly picking up steam in the collector vehicle market, if you haven’t already noticed. The classic 1980s design has long been overlooked likely due to committing the sins of being both familiar and reliable. However, as minty examples get increasingly hard to find, the best of the bunch are commanding a fair amount of interest on the collector vehicle market. Find this loaded 1986 Ford F-250 XLT with the Lariat and tow packages here on eBay with bids at $10,500 and no reserve.

When it comes to buying an old pickup truck, there’s a few factors that make certain examples a standout versus another. The obvious thing is condition; certainly, a truck that wasn’t beaten like a stubborn mule is almost impossible to find given they were never seen a future collector’s items. The bench seat, carpets, dash, and all trim appear to be in mint condition on this truck, and the Lariat trim gives it an extra dose of luxury over the base model trucks. This F150 also has only 42,000 miles and it shows.

The seller reports that this bullnose F150 is loaded inside and out. The interior features factory air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering, wood grain dash, power windows, power locks, original radio, brake controller and premium bench seat. Hell, there’s even a period car phone still attached to the dash. Finding a cell phone that’s hard-wired into an 80s F150 should tell you only one thing, which is that someone ordered the truck of their dreams when this XLT rolled off the lot.

The stance is perfect, with those Alcoa polished wheels looking sharp on a set of what I presume to be slightly larger than stock rubber. The bodywork appears to be in excellent condition with no signs of rust and still-presentable two-tone paint. The 460 V8 under the hood is the original mill and said to run quite well, and is paired with an automatic transmission. Other features include locking hubs, disc brakes, dual fuel tanks, factory sway bars, HD suspension, and more. Find the best example you can find with the most options – that’s what this bullnose is in a nutshell.

Just to clarify, this is a F-250, not a F-150 as stated in the write up.
Nice truck for the 10k it’s sitting at now. Don’t get too far away from the gas station though.
    F-250+460ci+automatic tranny=6-7 mpg

        Maybe 11 MPG? My ’01 Silverado 2500 got 12 to 13 MPG

Fuel mileage is irrelevant when you are behind the wheel of such a fine pick up truck. I own one .this truck is georgeous especially with this paint scheme which is preet rare

The words “fine pickup” have never applied to a ford.

Really? No one’s buying this thing because they care about fuel mileage.

I just drove my 91 F250 XLT 4×4 with a 460 and EOD auto from Hemet Cali to Northern Illinois. Running 70 MPH I would get 10.3 with 10% ethanol blend and 11.4 with straight 87 octane. And that was pulling a 3500lb tracker bass boat.

I agree with several of the past comments. I have owned a 1980 F350 and a 1985 F250 and a 1987 F150. All 4wd. Nice trucks, crap mileage. Who cares? The’re work trucks!!! If I need to travel a distance that is non work related, I use a car! Again, trucks are for work! If you are one of the many feeble minded people who succumb to vehicle manufacturers advertising that you have to have a big rig to go anywhere, you deserve to spend all your hard earned money for fuel. As an aside, my 1989 Chevy K2500 with a 350 engine, 4wd ,has the original sticker that says 11 city, 13 highway mpg. That’s fine! I use it to plow and to haul my car trailer. Again, it’s a work truck!

If you are worried about fuel mileage, you wouldn’t look at this truck. 6-7 mpg is when your pulling that big camper behind you. No mention of the gear ratio. But that could make a difference. I would say 10-12 would be about right for mpg.

I had an 81 GMC 1500 with a 350 auto 4X4. I got approx.. 18-20 MPG. My 2017 Chevy traverse gets about 18 MPG. If you care about gas milage, your looking at the wrong ad. sweet truck!

FOOD STAMPS. If I bought this truck, most likely I would need them. 6-7 mpg is a fairly accurate statement for this truck with a 460 V-8 , four wheel drive , and oversized tires/ wheels. But – I think that this truck is absolutely gorgeous the way it sits. Great color combos, and especially the XLT package! If I needed to pull a heavy trailer of some sort, I would definitely consider it ! The money I would spend compared to a newer truck , buys a lot of gasoline. And – food for myself. Great article. Good luck with the sale of this truck !

6-7 is not accurate. I had a 78 F250, 4×2, 460, 15mpg all day long, and of course, empty. I also had a 95 F250, 4X4, 460, auto 13-14mpg, and again empty. Load’em up, and the mpg went down, no kiddin, the same with any internal combustion engine, including diesels. Moral of the story is, keep yer foot outta the firewall, and drive like a civilized human being. Wow, just wasted my breath on that concept

If you priced a new one, you’d be at this guy’s door in a minute, cash in hand

Why do truck threads always go back to mpg’s?

Who cares? Great truck for the price of a 10 year old econobox.

I just purchased a 91 f150 xlt lariat, two tone powder blue and white, with a slight rust patina.
The interior is immaculate, fully equipped. A 5.8l 351w under the hood. I’m leaving everything as is and let her ” sleep “
