Fun Driver: 1968 Corvette Convertible

1968-Corvette-Convertible-driver

This 1968 Corvette convertible had been sitting since the 80s until the current owner purchased it. They installed a new fuel tank and went through the brakes so it could be driven again. The paint is also original with the exception of some touch-up on the tail and the underside looks solid. It is equipped with the 300 horsepower 327 and a four-speed transmission, so if bidding doesn’t go much higher, this should make for a very fun driver. Find it here on eBay where bidding is at $14k with only two hours left! Thanks to Paul V. for sending this one in.

a good deal, keep it maintained and you will never lose money on it, replace those old tires before it goes too far.

Love that car!!!!!!!!! I had the exact car but with 327 350hp engine. Unfortunely I totaled it in 1975. Had my Corvair Spyder started that night I wouldn’t have wrecked the ‘Vette but the ‘Vair might have killed me, at least I survived.

Damn, for just 21K a person could have had this and the 71′ XJ earlier. Would of been a nice start to a inexpensive priced collection of cool rides, very rare in todays world.

First ‘vette I ever drove was this spec 327 in dark green. Nice car to drive and looked really good with the optonal vinyl clad fiberglass hardtop. 1968 was the first year of the emission controls. It wasn’t that hard to turn that 327 back to 1967 specs, especially if like the one I drove, the owner was a very sucessful Chevelle drag racer. A built 327 is one sweet engine. I’m 20 miles from Brian Bair’s Linesville, PA Corvette restoration and replica parts shop, I hope he or one of his friends bought this to drive in the area. 1968 was the first year of the new body style, a great year for the Corvette. And it got better when the 427 went in it.

I hate to bring you guys down, but, these cars are piles. That is why it only got $14K.
Heavy, ill handling, vacuum tubes/hoses and wires going everywhere make for a PITA car.
Also my dream car when I was unable to afford one. I had some nice ones over the years but they are gone for a reason.

When I worked for OCW (Old Cars Weekly) back in the 80/90’s my editor had a mint 57′ 283 2x4bbl we used to take to Bloomington every year, drove down from Iola, WI. Ah, memories….

IMO, to its defense, any first year total re-design of a true legend before emissions struck (71′) and is restorable is worthy of attention of a true enthusiast, not necessarily to drive everyday but to relish. I think 14K would be right for a GTO, 442 or GS in this shape but not a vette, especially a convertible.

My first vette was a ’68 427 L71 M22 4 speed. manual everything. Sounds really nice but a real unreliable toilet. Stay away from the 68s.

68’s one of the worst corvette years around…new body style etc. Good price at $14k though. ….and no turbo!
