Although sales were down a bit from the previous model, the Pontiac GTO was still going strong in 1969, with more than 72,000 of them rolling off the assembly line. Muscle cars were still a hot commodity during this period, and the GTO delivered not only in performance, but it also scored high in the looks department. This goat is said to have gotten a respray in its original color of Burgundy, but this was a while ago, and since the paint was applied there’s been some damage to the passenger side door and front fender. The rocker panel trim isn’t fitting very snugly either, but one photo from underneath shows the front tire at what could be an odd angle, so perhaps the impact may have also affected some of the front-end components. Maybe it’s just a result of the camera’s positioning or due to low tire pressure, but I might at least consider inquiring about this before deciding how much to offer. The good news is the car seems mostly complete on the outside, and the frame and rest of the undercarriage we get to view appear solid.
This one’s said to have been garage-kept, and a glance inside shows an interior that looks surprisingly good for its age. There’s no word if any work has been done in here, but the seats aren’t showing obvious tears and most of the components seem satisfactory as-is for a driver. The glove box door would benefit from some detailing and it’s unknown if the dash cover is for protection or hiding something, but overall the inside area appears to be one of the car’s strong points.
The 400 is said to still run strong, with the owner stating that the actual mileage is 126,697. It’s not mentioned if the engine or automatic transmission has ever gotten an overhaul, but the bay still appears to be in decent order, so hopefully some good miles are remaining before any major attention will be needed under the hood. This 1969 Pontiac GTO is in one of those conditions where it’s probably OK to make a few repairs and just enjoy driving it for a while, but the car also seems like a candidate to consider for a high-end restoration.
