Garaged Since ’82! 1970 Dodge Charger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Offered as a never-restored survivor down to the buffed-out original FY1 Top Banana paint, this 1970 Dodge Charger in Valley Village, California comes to market here on eBay with high hopes and a $70,000 Buy It Now price, augmented by the Make Offer button. Stock-size rolling gear look ridiculous in the cavernous wheel wells. Said to retain original metal except for a replacement trunk floor, the Charger shows an undercarriage still entombed in what is described as factory undercoating. Though mechanical description and details escape the listing, it runs and drives, a great start.

If anyone bought Chrysler products because they painted their engine compartments body color, this picture explains why. Only a few paint blemishes keep onlookers from crying foul on the original paint claim. The N code E63 motor brought 335 HP to the table, the hottest of three 383 cid (6.3L) options, according to 1970ChargerRegistry. Air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering ease the chores for the pilot of this banana-colored beast. Two build sheets accompany the listing, and the “53” axle decodes to a 3.23 ratio according to Mopar1, which should make a good blend of stout takeoff and reasonable highway cruising.

The white-and-black interior can’t be beat, and this one’s in great shape. Those have to be recovered seats, and the sweet console with circular chrome floor lights is the icing on the cake. If someone died and made me King, all cars would come with a similar interior.

Only the 1973 license plate with its stickers from ’82 looks like it’s been parked that long. Either this car was lovingly cared-for during its forty years of storage or more likely someone spent countless hours preparing it for a price-stretching sale. It almost looks like someone dissembled the car, cleaned each part, and replaced it. Tip your hat to the seller for helping people see what they’re buying, a seemingly lost art. Buyers should inquire about the fender tag, and I’d want to know exactly what was done to the car between its long hiatus and today. Would you call this Top Banana Charger a survivor?

I think the Make Offer option is indicative that the Seller is skeptical it will bring 70 large.

I don’t know, this blandly colored Charger 500, w/ 318/rust repair/water in trunk, sold on eBay for $50K recently! I agree that larger wheels are needed, and I replaced my 14″ inchers with 15″ 1 piece alloys, virtually indistinguishable from OEM Magnums. This one appears to be very nice, and I’ll not be surprised if it does go for $70K large! GLWTA!! :-)

I own a fairly pristine 68 bought new and restored nicely. I think $70,000 for it might be a tad pricey but one never knows.

That left front fender looks a little WAVY, And the bumper is pulled away from the body around the bottom. But it runs and drives.

Alittle wavy is being kind,it’s flagging me down! Looks like some high school body work here.

Only thing I’d do with the wheels is replace the RWLs with white stripes when they wear out. When’s the last time you saw a 100% stock Charger?

Yell-ugh. I’m in the process of disassembling my Challenger which will, unfortunately, go back factory FYI (yellow). The only color I like on a car less is orange. At least it will have a bunch of black on it to tone it down some.
