Gassers are so damn cool, aren’t they? This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette is an interesting opportunity, as some major work has been done and lots of high dollar parts are included in the sale. However, it is far from done, so you’ve got to have eyes wide open about taking on a project. The Corvette’s body is rolling on a rusty chassis, but the fully detailed chassis is included and looks absolutely stunning. The seller lists several desirable upgrades and you can find the listing here on eBay with a Buy-It-Now of $35,000 and no bites yet on the listing.
Wow – this sucker is mean, even sitting there as a half-finished project. The seller notes that the body will come with new seats, door panels, and more, and that there’s a high dollar value associated with what you’ll bring home. That’s all well and good, but I sure wish sellers would break out all of that information in the listing so you knew exactly what you were getting. The most attractive feature about this Corvette is that it has clearly been a gasser or track car for many years based on the heavily patina’d paint job and staggered wheels (oh, and the gigantic hole cut in the hood.)
Here’s the fully-detailed chassis that will come with the project ‘Vette, and this is the point I always scratch my head: why not just finish it at this point, and sell it for likely a good amount more money? I suspect I know the answer to this question on a partial level, as I certainly have gotten to the point on projects where I’m so tired of working on something (or paying someone else to) that I feel there’s greater value in having my free time and shop space back versus working on a car I don’t love for another two years and perhaps not even netting that much more in the process. The listing claims that this Corvette has been assembled with a fresh 468 and built 9″ rear end.
Other upgrades include a built Muncie four-speed, Winters heads, eight stack with EFI live controller, and Wilwood disc brakes on all four corners. This has all the ingredients for being a truly epic rat rod, with the patina’d exterior preserved over a thoroughly modernized and upgraded chassis and drivetrain. The asking price is more of a question mark, as I’m not sure what a fair price is – for any hot rod builders out there or folks who run a restoration shop, is there still a profit to be had if you finish the assembly process and get this ’62 Corvette hot rod running again? Let us know in the comments below.
I’m on the fence with this one. It looks (L front fender) needs some fiberglass work. And if the frame is too rusty to keep, what about the birdcage?
Not too many shots of the body, like fire wall, the cowl definitely has been hacked. For which seller has placed a box and some other parts to obscure the damage. So has a pretty frame with a pretty screwed up body. Maybe that threw the project off track, was going so well too!
I’d have to know many more details before taking the seller’s word that the title is clear.
His eBay ad photos don’t show the factory VIN plate or the VIN stampings on the two frames. For that matter, he doesn’t even state the actual Vehicle Identification Number on eBay. These are serious red flags for a $35,000 project car.
We saw this one last year.

Thanks for posting that link.
This purchase could be a nightmare for a buyer, even if bought solely for parts. I wouldn’t buy this “undocumented Corvette” at any price with its bogus paperwork.
15K then and 35K now????? Ummmmmmm. No
“Gassers are so damn cool, aren’t they?”
No…I think they’re stupid and a waste of otherwise worthy automobiles.
Well, you asked.
I certainly agree, why take a nice automobile and do this to it? Sure, there are a small group of people who appreciate them but the majority of people would rather have them in original condition or at least of close to it as possible. With such a small group appreciating the rebuild to a Gasser are a much more limited group and thus the value is reduced.
Previous seller admitted he did not have vin or title.

I actually wonder if it might be the same seller as the previous listing? He may have decided to do some more work on it and really jacked the price up!

Ruined it. Some people should never own a Corvette,
I guess if you own it, you can do whatever you want with it, that’s the thing about ownership…
It dosen’t cost much to get the Vin sorted by State Police or DMV in California anyway. Basic running condition , safety check, brakes lights they issue a title. OR,….IMPOUND IT BECAUSE ITS DIRTY!
