Go Big: 1967 Dodge D200 Crew Cab

Go big or go home, that philosophy would work for this 1967 Dodge D200 Crew Cab. The seller has it posted here on craigslist, and when the listing goes away the photos and description can be found on the CL archive. They’re asking a big $8,000 or best offer for this truck and it’s located in San Angelo, Texas. Thanks to G. Keller for submitting this one!

With a 146-inch wheelbase this Crew Cab had 16-inches on the 1967 Cadillac Sedan deVille. That’s big. The first two years of the second-generation Dodge D-Series pickups had this simple grille that I much prefer over the 1968 grille. Sometimes simpler is better. The seller says that this truck “is a 20 footer. Somebody did a horrible respray. Overspray in several places.”

What a beautiful design, these Sweptline boxes are so elegant for a pickup. The seller says that this is a short bed but it looks big to me. Maybe because my 1980 Dodge D-50 would probably fit in the bed of this one. The salt flats-like wheel covers are interesting and I’m not sure what’s going on with the left tail light lens? There is quite a bit of rust on the rockers and elsewhere that will need to be addressed. The owner says that there is “Rust in the rockers and bed. Floors feel solid but are probably going to need work too.”

The big interior will also need work. A full gut-job awaits, but that’s only if a person were interested in bringing it back. Being a two-wheel drive it won’t have the resale value of a 4×4 example will. Maybe this truck will live out its life as a truck and not a restored trailer queen. You can see the unique dash shifter in the photo above, this truck has an automatic transmission. Hagerty is at $8,700 for a #3 good condition truck and a #4 fair condition example is listed as being worth $3,900. Unless there is a bag of money hidden in this one there is most likely some negotiating room.

A big engine is under the big hood: this is Dodge’s 383 cubic-inch V8, the biggest engine available in this truck for 1967. This one would have had 258 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. The seller says that it has recently had a “major tune up. Timing chain, water pump, belts, coil, plugs, wires, etc all replaced within the last 6 months. Radiators been flushed and recored. Wheel cylinders all replaced. Shoes looked good. New master cylinder and power booster. New carven exhaust.” I’m guessing that this will be used as a truck and not a show piece, what do you think? Not everything has to be restored back to looking like new again.

It would be cool with a 12 valve Cummins.

Great write up Scotty! I love these old Dodge’s. If I had the money I would buy it (at a negotiated price) and repair while driven. Have seen too many of these converted to the 12V Cummins, which I have one of those as well. Would leave this one with the big block and enjoy it.

I like it and would just freshen up the rattle can paint with real paint of fire engine 🚒 paint and throw some nice 🐄 leather on the seats and put in new carpet or industrial vinyl floor mats like originals🤠

Then drive it with my Stetson hat and cowboy boots!

Back in the day it seemed that you either went to Dodge or Binder if you wanted a crew cab. This is a good unit to have and use it as is. A full driver-quality restoration as you go; these are rare and you don’t want to see it rust away. Keep the 383; you’ll be unique and it will still take you anywhere you want to go and bring you back. The Cummins engine is a great touch but it’s getting to become a belly button; like an SBC in a Ford.

How about get a newish rolled over RAM 3500 sell interior and exterior bits and pieces, then move this body onto.the frame of the RAM? Enjoy 4wd, ac. Abs, traction, lo range, modern 6 speed trans, great towing capacity etc…

If cash were in my wallet, I’d pull her in the bay, put her on the hoist and start to pull her apart. Pull the body, fix the rust. Clean, box and paint the chassis. Reinstall the body, drive train and since I was USAF police, paint the body USAF blue, install a period appropriate light bar and run it around the parade routes when done. We used plenty of these on the flight lines as SAT vehicles.

As Ricky Scaggs says “its hard to kill ham “. And its hard to kill an old Dodge. Built like Tanks. But lets not have wet dreams of restoring this old plow horse. Buy it if you must but leave it as it is.
