Going Fast: 1962 Morgan 4/4

m1

Reader Cooper S. sent in this great find, located in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. It’s listed here on eBay where bidding ends this evening (EST), so you’d better hurry if you are interested. It’s been kept indoors since at least 1990 and shows little rust, the wood is said to be good, but there are signs of amateur repairs to a door and the frame is cracked in two places. The folks disposing of the car have taken good pictures and the damage is repairable, but the fact that they could not get the Ford engine started may be hurting the sale price; at this point it’s less than $10,000. I love the look of this car as-is and would repair the issues and drive it on a regular basis! Just the car for my brisk autumn morning commute!

The Morgan experts can give the last word, but my first word would be…..that looks like a real BIG crack in the frame shown in the photo. Makes me think the frame is toast even if patched.

And the fact the car has been altered (‘bodged’ as they say where it came from), that the engine won’t start (probably the least of your concerns about the car), that it’s a 4/4 (instead of a +4), and that you would be dealing 3rd hand with people who don’t know much about the car, all tell me that if I were in the market for one of these—-keep looking.

The good thing to see is all the questions that people interested in the car have asked….even if the guy who listed the car for the owner doesn’t know much about it.

You are correct. It’s burnt toast dropped butter side down in the cat’s litter tray. Start from the bottom up with a new frame. Or. Keep looking.

“There is a crack in the frame, but the crack does not effect its driving ability.”

A crack or broken frame indicates that there are stresses from one side of the break to the other. That’s why it’s cracked in the first place.
I would think that means it does “affect it’s driving ability”. Just wait till the crack becomes a complete break.

this car was not taken care and is now $10201 for morgans parts, some of which might be good. take it all apart, start with a good or new frame and rebuild. i too think the seller is a problem. interesting find

Morgan is still in business and will make a new frame for it. If you passed it up for the crack you blew it.
