Born as a stand-in Batmobile to delight a California hospital’s youngest patients, this crazy 1973 Opel custom in the Flushing neighborhood of Gotham (i.e. New York City) seeks a new owner; one who welcomes bats into their belfry and bat-themed cars into their personal bat cave. The listing here on craigslist.org asks $25,000 for this one-of-a-kind coupe. Thanks to reader Ian C. for spotting this unique ride.
Built in 1989, this tech-laden Opel caught the eye of Sony Electronics who pitched in some additional state-of-the art gadgets. Sadly there’s only room for one Bat-Daddy or Bat-Mama; this coupe only accommodates a single leather-jumpsuit-clad crime fighter.
Holy sensory-overload, Batman! No inch of this Opel’s fanny was spared during the car’s complete batification. The paint job may have cost five-digits in late-’80s dollars.
An entire batch of custom logos adorns this battle-wagon. Hopefully the seller requests a thorough tour or they might go for the high beams and shoot out an oil slick instead.
Sadly no wicked turbine powers this ‘mobile. Unless I missed it, the listing describes a boat-load of late 20th-century electronics but nothing about the vehicle’s running condition or shortcomings, but who cares? No one’s buying this car for its acceleration. This one’s about slow-rolling by a scout pack to see jaws drop and eyes bug out. Is this ride worth 25 large or has the seller simply gone bats?
Perfect example of why not to do drugs.
It’s unique, but will only appeal to a very small segment of the population. It’s hard to see it selling for anywhere close to the asking price any time soon.

Even Robben would be embarrassed to drive this💩
Oh, dear lord
Poor little Opel! Luckily GTs aren’t that rare, I’m confident it was purchased at close to nothing when this thing was built. I’m observing that ultra high-tech cellular Bat-phone in its cockpit…
It’s like one of those toys you give to kids that they get heavily excited about when they open the gift – 5 mins later they’ve forgotten all about it.
One should be a tad above average into the Bat-world to throw 25k at it. Probably best suited for the Bat-fetish couple who wants to expand their domestic Batman/Batwoman roleplay out of their bedroom confines…
More like “gone bat bleep crazy!” Holy cow.
Ah, I see they chose the “common sense” delete option.
What a waste of money and damage to a perfectly good car💰.
Maybe someone can get it cheap and rip the interior and dash-out and put it back . Then start repairing the body .
I hope this guys house 🏡 is not worked on by him.
Is this guy a real life “Tool Time” personally like the old tv show or what??🤔🤔🤔😼
Someone call Bib Villa 😂
Someone turn off the bat 🦇 light communication as it’s no emergency 🚨 here but possibly sadness 😜
Great work Doc…that man deserves the key to Gotham City.
Oh, please, a stock GT is a tough sell these days, much less this. I get such a kick out of folks right away using the “drug card”. For what it is, ( I’m not really sure) it’s remarkably well done. Druggies don’t do stuff like this, they only complain about it.
I agree you’d have to be clear headed to be able to pull this build off. It’s not my cup of tea and sure would NOT want this thing. The fact is it was built with a noble propose in mind. ( making sick kids smile )
The most (only?) positive thing that I can think to say is that it was apparently done for a good cause.
Still……
And you Barn Find Administrators: You put this kind of stuff up on the board just to amuse yourselves reading the comments, don’t you.
i’m going to be……..SICK
My thoughts exactly.
Restrained, lightly & tastefully modded Opel GTs can be cool. I’ve seen two that come to mind. This isn’t one of them.
If you’ve never had the opportunity to be around kids in the “Burn Unit” or the “Oncology Ward,” you’re missing out on something very “special” The doctor who created this dose of medication has the (biggest) heart anyone can ever imagine or understand. Sometimes in a very clinical world where prescription drugs aren’t always the answer, regaining a smile and a bit of hope in a child’s life…well now, there lies the answer. I personally served in the emergency response field for over 30 years. It humbles you immensely…Perhaps you gentleman missed some of the description in the eBay ad. Continue to innovate not duplicate…
This.
“The listing describes a boat-load of late 20th-century electronics”. Correction: that should read “bat-load” not “boat-load”.
The purpose of entertaining sick children in hospitals erases all of my skepticism about this vehicle. I’m from New York City and those children need all the attention and care they deserve as well as a little entertainment too. The kids love Batman and Spider-man so why not. Just like any other pediatric ward in any other hospital in any other state. Too bad he’s selling it, it probably will not be used for it’s original purpose.
Was that Bats or NUTZ
Holy cheese dip batman
Thing looks more like bat turd then the bat mobile!! It’s was done for sick children!! But it’s not something I would spend that amount of coin on!!!
I’m with Rube. All good deeds etc……
Price has bumped UP to $35000.
I can’t believe there hasn’t been loads of comments about the car being located in Flushing, NY.
If I were, or could, building it for kids I would have left room for them to ride in it with me
Proves a favorite adage of mine; just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
Nicely done out of the box thinking – to each his own !
No passenger seat. Instead a bunch of outdated Sony crappola. Dumb decision.
Price is absurd – take a $3500 Opel GT, a few thousand dollars of poorly spent money and you’ve duplicated this. Save many thousands in the process but still won’t be able to explain it when you are brought to the sanity hearing!
