The 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 represents one of the most recognizable expressions of the muscle car era, and certain combinations stand out even among these already desirable machines. This example currently listed on eBay is presented as a numbers-matching 1970 Mustang Mach 1 equipped with Ford’s legendary 428 Super Cobra Jet engine and factory Drag Pack equipment.

According to the listing, the car is powered by its numbers-matching 428 Super Cobra Jet V8 paired with a close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 66,380 miles, which the seller states are actual. This drivetrain combination helped define Ford’s performance reputation during the height of the muscle car wars, especially when paired with the Drag Pack option that added extra performance hardware designed for serious acceleration.

The seller notes that this particular Mach 1 is finished in Grabber Green with a black vinyl interior. The car is described as retaining its original paint and original interior, both of which the seller states remain in excellent condition. A Marti Report is included with the sale, documenting the car’s specifications.

Factory performance features listed include the Drag Pack equipment, competition suspension, and power steering. The car is also equipped with power front disc brakes and a trunk-mounted battery, components commonly associated with the high-performance Drag Pack setup.
Additional details mentioned in the listing include high-back vinyl bucket seats and the original AM/8-track stereo radio, which help preserve the car’s period-correct interior presentation. Exterior and equipment highlights listed by the seller include sport slats, Magnum 500 wheels, and belted white sidewall tires.

The seller also notes that this Mach 1 is described as one of only 14 produced in Grabber Green with this configuration, adding another layer of rarity to an already desirable model. The car is said to have been well maintained and remains a strong representation of the era.

Among classic Mustangs, the 1970 Mach 1 with the Super Cobra Jet and Drag Pack package has long been considered one of the most serious performance versions offered by Ford. Cars equipped this way were built with straight-line performance in mind and have become some of the most sought-after Mustangs from the muscle car era.

With numbers-matching power, documented history through a Marti Report, and its distinctive Grabber Green finish, this Mach 1 appears to represent a well-preserved example of one of Ford’s most memorable high-performance Mustangs.

Can we assume all those pieces are on one car? Kinda rusty underneath. Asking how much?
No mention of if it runs and drives, if it does get it out of there and get some better photos!! Seller has 917 listings.
Drag Pak? Not listed on the Marti report. Came with an open rear, not a Detroit Locker.
Super Cobra Jet? Marti says Q code Cobra Jet, not SCJ.
All 3.91 and 4.30 equipped cars were Super Cobra Jets, any other gear ratio was a Cobra Jet. The Q signified non-Ram Air, the R was for Ram Air, not CJ or SCJ. The factory 3.25 gear rules out the possibility of it being a SCJ car.
Steve R
Correct, Steve R.
3.91 (V) or 4.30 (W) only on diff. gears to be SCJ.
The 428 was the CJ engine and the 429 was the SCJ engine and the 429 BOSS was a HEMI engine if I remember correctly, and the 429 SCJ had a Q-Jet while the others used Holley’s. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
William, the 428 and 429 were different series of engine, one was an FE, the other was a 385. Both had CJ’s and SCJ’s. The SCJ’s was automatically triggered when 3.91 or 4.30 gear ratio was ordered, with either engine. If any other gear ratio came with the car it was a CJ.
The 429CJ came with a Rochester Q-jet, the 429SCJ used a Holley.
If you try doing research, avoid the AI generated output if possible, it often has mistakes, go to specific club or forum website/links if possible, preferably ones with a lot of engagement, they are more likely to be accurate.
Steve R
You are correct .The oil cooler holes for the lines have not been punched out .This car is not a SCJ
I guess a picture of the entire engine is asking to much when that is what makes this Mach one special.
Getting a picture of the entire car outside the garage is too much to ask for too.
I’m guessing this is a beautiful car. Do you suppose if I flew to California, rented a car, drove to his location that he would pull it of of the garage so I could get a decent look at it?
JEEZ some of these guys are lazy!
This is a for sale by owner store. The other listings must be rolled up under the FSBO on listings.
I wish the owner well on listing but think their car seller etc. is doing them a disservices with the minimum details provided.
More pictures and better details are warranted to get high dollars.
It’s hard to believe that the interior is original, Marti shows it to be white. Seller is full of it.
Wow, awful set of photos for a blue chip like this.
What’s with all the pictures taken inside a cramped garage? Not one shows the whole engine or the car’s body in its entirety. Too bad, I really like the color too, not that I would buy it.
I wish I knew more about these cars and how to tell if everything was original and what it needs to be road worthy. I love this car and would consider purchasing it but I don’t want to find out later it’s a bondo queen
Another lazy seller!! There is definitely confusing things going on here. Its a shame because it looks like a decent Mach 1.
Not an SCJ
Both horns shoild be on left/passenger side to clear (missing) engine oil cooler.
Marti ?
Need to see axle code V for 3.91 (mine) or W for 4.30.
No. Not a SCJ.
You are correct I have an SCJ for 41 years and that is the first thing you see also if it was an SCJ like mine it would have the counterweight on the crank for the Lemans rods mine does come with the 4:30 W code Detroit locker and is truly original and has all original drive train.
Up to $51,100.00. Marti Report doesn’t match description, which is no surprise because it was AI written. The photos were all taken from the video which has the same voiced AI description.
It is a very desirable car and if it is anywhere near the Marti report (white interior?) it will probably get the ask. But if the interior is inaccurate., so is probably everything else, like original paint.
No way I’d put a bid without an in person look, but at least it is on the West coast. And $50k buys so many other beautiful cars…
I agree Jay. Well stated. And 1 of 14? 🤔 Up to $51g’s. It only takes one buyer & I ain’t it. Nice write up Elizabeth.
I reached out to the guy, I asked 3 times if it runs and drives because it’s on dollies? No response. I asked why he posted it was a track pal car but the marti report doesn’t show code 92? The 3.25 gear didn’t come with the track pak (391 or 430) again no response. I asked about the hood being changed or modified but it says original paint?( Q code non ram air) and nothing, he only said where to find the marti report. I was a serious buyer but not anymore. Whoever “wins” this is going to be in for a lot of surprises! Good luck!
It could be that nobody wins as “minimum not met”.
Way too many descrepencies for this to be what it’s advertised as. The Marti report says it all. Too many well informed Ford guys around for this seller to think he can misrepresent the car and not be challenged.
Elizabeth, seller tricked you, DO NOT buy this Clone!
Just to be clear, the marti report shows it’s Not a track pak car.
The interior has been changed from white to black.
The hood is not original (Q code non ram air), the rear spoiler is not original to the car (both not on marti).
The paint is definitely not original as stated.
The bottom of the car looks rusty and they replaced the front half of the exhaust and mufflers but not the tailpipe for some reason.
The car is listed by “FSBO” which I’m guessing is “for sale by owner” website that probably advertises through several venues. That also might be why the “site” isn’t responding to real questions like “does it run and drive”…
Still an awesome car but far from what rolled off the line!
The 2 big questions to me are does it run and drive? And how rusty are the floors and body?(bondo hides a lot) and this guy isn’t being exactly truthful!
When the Mustang was initially listed, I had trouble finding the basic Marti repot. I found thru searching thru eBay and their listing site.
I had sent an eBay message asking location from the FSBO listing company. I did get a reply of the price only and not interested.
“For serious buyers only. Reserve is $100,000. Are you still in market at that price?”
I agree “AI” listed the Mustang and its very misleading and evidently the listing company has to many cars listed or not a Mustang knowledgeable person. I am a classic Mustang owner with many prior stangs too and believe Marti is the gospel to get the real build information. Then it’s up to the buyer to validate the rest as current conditon. Seeing this listing and of course all the other Mustang knowledgeable readers it’s a no.
The real owner of the car is getting a disservice on what he has and really should have gone a better approach to sell. I could think of a couple places he should have sold including Barn Finds.
The real owner is never going to sell this for 100k, so it dosent really matter until he understands reality.
Marti Report indicates WHITE interior.
Steve R, thank you brother, I appreciate it. Some of those Ford big blocks were confusing. I knew the 385 series was the 429/460 and the FE series included the 428 standard T-Bird engine and a 428 CJ engine but never knew they made SCJ in the 428. I thought it was only the 429 that had the SCJ because of the way the heads were designed. Learn something new every day lol.
