It looks like Grandpa took pretty good care of his 1978 Lincoln Continental Mk. V, which the seller has listed for sale here on craigslist. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Kevin for this neat find! The car comes with a parts car, is located in Stanwood, Washington and is priced at only $2,900 obo! Go ahead, click on that link and buy it before I figure out how to pay for the gas to drive it across the country.
The car really does look well-taken-care-of in the pictures. The seller tells us that it has 116,000 total miles but only 40,000 on the 460 cubic inch V8 (and there’s a spare in the parts car as well). They also tell us that it has a new battery and water pump.
The driver’s side window motor needs replacing, and the windshield is cracked. However, that leather will come up very nicely with some care and I don’t even see a crack in the dash top. By the way, this is the Cartier edition–Lincoln had several different design editions of the Mark V during this time period, with relatively minor cosmetic differences between them.
Access through these doors isn’t a problem, although pulling the door shut if you park on a hill may well be!
Nothing but the finest in plastic wood here. Sure, it’s a little bit ostentatious in places and very much a product of its time. But think about what you can buy for less than $3,000 nowadays! I’m in, how about you?
My neighbor had one of these when I was. Teen let me use it on a few date nights in 1978. What a ride it was a block long .
I was really close to buying one of these in the late 80’s, I test drove one and fell in love. Then I saw a 86 Monte Carlo SS with 22,000 miles and bought it instead.
It’s like riding your recliner everywhere you went, a very nice ride !
Someone should grab this right away this is a great deal. Not my cup of tea so I will pass. Plus my wife tells me I have too many toys now.
Could be a good starter vehicle for an enthusiast of ’70s cars…
Mine was a dark blue version of this.
I love the automatic headlight system that put down the headlight covers on this one.
I usually didn’t get to see that from outside the car.
Mine was a great highway car too.
Obviously this wasn’t a California car. I don’t think they had the 460 on 1978.
When I was a teen, the owner of the largest electrical contractor in my home town bought a new one of these every year and traded the old one. I remember those special editions very well. My young eyes saw the most beautiful cars in the world back then. Quadraphonic stereo? Wow!
A good friend has his father’s 26K mile 1979 Bill Blass edition in the blue and white colors. He’s had it for sale for over two years and has only received very low offers similar to the asking price of this one. The car looks like new but, still, it sits there unwanted.
I don’t know why these don’t have more of a market than they do.
Maybe the various designer additions of the day, created a perception of exclusivity and high value then; but today, and I personally love these cars, there’s an air of tackiness to them and thus a low value…much like the Cordoba with “rich Corinthian leather”, it’s a punchline now but was once a selling point.
I was disappointed that there wasn’t a *Sid Vicious Edition when these cars were new… ;-)
*My friends and I though the whole ‘Designer Edition’ cars were a bit of a joke, back in the 1970s. We used to come up with our own ‘concepts’ like the one above.
“rich Corinthian leather” was Chrysler’s line, was it not and from the 1980s?

I would like some additional info if possible on your friends father Lincoln.
Thanks,Ray
That Bill Blass ediion was the BOMB!
We were knee deep in these things back in the day. Every oil mans dream,I don’t think I’ve seen one on the street in ten years. The dark blue collectors edition were my favorite, absolutely stunning to my eye back then.
Looks pretty good from what I’m seeing and with a parts car that just sweetens the deal. Price is not bad.
He didn’t say the parts car was included in the deal. Just sayin’
That is true. Reread the ad and it says he has a parts car but doesn’t say anything beyond that. Don’t know if it’s included or not.
My boss let me take his silver and red Continental to my senior prom in 1980. It was a huge step up from my VW. Looking back, I am floored by his generosity and trust in a 17 year-old.
Why do these always have to be 1800 miles away???
If it were closer it would be mine, NOW.
The road trip back is half the fun.
Give people a thrill seeing a real car on the highway for once.
Had a 77 for a bit 15 years ago, had a cool speedometer that changed from black to white as it swept. Rode like the sofa, great cruiser. Expect about 10 mpg on the highway.
I’m surprised this isn’t gone already too. Prices seem to have really gone up in recent years and there’s a small but hardcore following for them. The rear disc brakes and the hydroboost units on these cars used to be very popular junkyard picking items.
I think you can get one without a cracked dash/windshield for that kind of money.
What a boat!!!
These are HUGE cars. And the epitome of luxury. The gauges were seriously like jewelry. gas guzzlers, yes, but they float down the road like riding in the Queen’s coach
Ugly as a hangnail! Why these are gaining in popularity is beyond belief. Land yacht!
Buy this and be the envy of all at the next Malaise car show.
I can think of many, many cars that are far less good-looking than this.
Wow, never seen a tachometer in roman numerals ! … my bad, it’s a clock lol…You can watch how long it takes to get to 80 mph !
Nice car. I’m a pretty good driver, but i might feel intimidated in tight spaces. Curb feelers with camera lenses.
