Grass Fed Goat: 1967 Pontiac GTO

Although we often see cars that are left out to pasture, not all of those cars are lost causes. While they may not be the rust-free turnkey dream we all want, there is still hope for many of these forgotten classics. This 1967 Pontiac GTO has no drivetrain and shows a lot of surface rust, but looking closer this GTO still appears to be a worthwhile car. For those of you who can do it all, this GTO is currently bid up to $1,075.00. Check it out here on eBay out of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Once a black on red stunner, this GTO has been out of commission for a while and appears to be missing its drivetrain. The seller hasn’t come right out and said it, but the past tense mention  of it having power steering and power brakes seems to confirm the lack of drivetrain. Inside there is still evidence of the original interior, although it is on the rough side. The carpet is still a bright shade of red, but unfortunately you will not being using it again. The dash shows several cracks, and the seats while mostly complete do have some cracking and rips.

Overall the body work is quite straight minus the passenger rear corner that has been bumped. It almost appears that the driver rear corner has been bumped and worked on before as there is evidence of thick primer, and body filler. While the rockers and lower portion of the quarters are hidden from rocker trim, there is no apparent rot in the car except for around the trunks edge. The trunk floor is quite rusty, but there is no visible rot from the limited view we get in the photos. Although plagued with issues, I have seen much worse come up for sale and undergo restoration. Would you take a chance on this GTO?

If I could do it all I definitely would as an investment vehicle.

Call the Bomb Squad. Not to dispose of one, but to set one off underneath it.

This was a factory AC car, you can tell by the dash vent over the heat / vent controls… Once a very nice car, sadly not much GTO left besides the tail lights and the VIN tag….

If you can do the work yourself it is definitely worth saving. For me it would be more of a labor of love of these cars, in fact I never have done a car to make money on but I have a few and lost on a few. Hope someone does save this poor goat.

I bought a ’67 GTO in 1980 for $1500.00 and drove it home…about an hours drive! Perfect interior…package tray was not warped or faded, no cracks in its smooth dash, headliner was in excellent condition, chrome, was near perfect, no dents….came with a standard 335 horse 400 and a three speed Hurst floor shifter…even had the original PMD hubcaps – what a fool I was to sell it two years later for $3500.00!

“quite straight minus the passenger rear corner that has been bumped. It almost appears that the driver rear corner has been bumped and worked on before as there is evidence of thick primer, and body filler.” What about these sentences tells you that the body is “quite straight”??

I bought a 1967 GTO in ’74~’75 with a 400 4/spd. On the seven mile drive home it ran out of gas twice. Needless to say it had been abused terribly. It took me a few weeks but, after extensive tinkering, I had it turning 12s at the local quarter mile track. It would be expensive but, I hope this one gets saved in some form.

I wonder about it being a true GTO . The driver side quarter has fins like a Lemans right under the back side window

Good eye Doug, I missed that and you are correct. Real 67 GTOs did not have those fins only the Lemans and I’m not sure but maybe the Tempest did.

Weird it has them on one side and not the other.

THis car is no longer listed on eBay. Reason? Item was lost or broken. That’s sp ironic! Lost cause. Broken dreams……

This appears to be a LeMans masquerading as a GTO. Salvage title, lots of rust and body damage, interior shot, no engine or trans. I wouldn’t put a dime into this pile.

Someone bid it up to $1465 but then it got “lost” I would say it was a real GTO, the Le Mans had different tail lights. I guess if you had 20K to spend you could make a driver out of it…

This G T O is not worth salvaging at all. There is way too many out there that are worthy of consideration. I happen to be an old Pontiac man and I do know a little bit about them. Ask Mike at MY ROD.COM he sold a 67 G T O to Australia that he completely rebuilt for $68,000.00.

Not a GTO but for five grand you can take this home it’s a Texas car. 1964 LeMans Factory AC bucket seat no console manual transmission car. I would say 98 percent rust-free. Pretty damn straight. Have a 400 Pontiac engine and a super T-10 transmission that I was planning to put in it. Imagine what a beauty this car was when it was brand new. Now look at it.
HOW does a car go from being mint and perfect to be so unforgivably neglected and ruined??

GRASS FED GOAT! LMAO best title yet Brian. R S the same way people do, way to much partying and not eating right and letting themselves go. Lots of physical abuse and no trips to the doctor to fix all that. LOL
