Original Paint Survivor: 1976 Pontiac Le Mans Sport Coupe

There are some cars that just work for a purely superficial reason, such as a wildly period-correct color scheme like this 1976 Pontiac LeMans Sport Coupe wears. Not only that, this is a car we might not typically gravitate towards, or at least not go out of our way to own, were it not for this wonderful shade of Lime Poly paint. This LeMans has just over 30,000 original miles, so it’s fairly new in the wrapper and it shows based on the condition in the photos. The seller is pretty open about what he’s looking to get for it, with the opening bid and Buy-It-Now the same price: $18,000. Find it here on eBay and located in Orlando, Florida.

The seller doesn’t wax poetic about this car’s history, but it must have been a good one. The bodywork appears to be pristine, and whether those old-school Florida plates indicate life-long Sunshine State residence isn’t confirmed in the listing. Other tell-tale signs that this LeMans has been loved include the perfect vinyl top, the nicely preserved chrome bumpers, lustrous taillamp lenses, and OEM mudflaps still attached. There’s a lot to like here, even if the LeMans as a model wasn’t all that desirable in 1976. This one is extra appealing thanks to a generous list of recent maintenance items detailed in the listing.

The interior really is a treat to behold, almost as nice as the outside. White seating surfaces are famously hard to keep clean, but this cabin looks exceptional. Front bucket seats are a treat, and the full-length center console appears to be just as pristine as the seats. The dash is uncracked, which when combined with the perfect vinyl top, indicates to me this Pontiac didn’t spend too much time parked outside. The seller reports that the air conditioning is freshly charged, such a nice change of pace from all the sellers who rarely get this feature to work on a vintage vehicle. The listing reports this is a one-family-owned car since new.

In 1976, performance was becoming a four-letter word and engine choices were suffering. Fortunately, the original purchaser of this LeMans skipped the base model engine offering, the homely 250, and sprung for one of the optional V8s. This particular engine benefits from a rebuilt carburetor; a new gas tank, fuel filter, and fuel pump; a replacement radiator and fan; rebuilt automatic transmission; a fresh water pump; a new cap, rotor, and spark plugs; new tires and battery; and much more. This was likely already a nice car before it received all of those improvements, but now it will go as good as it looks. Still, as nice as it is, you have to wonder how many buyers are out there with $18K to spend on a LeMans.

It was all over the Chevy and Pontiac lines for about twelve minutes in 1976, then *poof*

Olds and Buick, too. Even Cadillac had a variation called Persian Lime. In the upscale models, the dash, carpet, console, and steering wheel were also bright green.

You must be young. There were a lot of GMs in this color from all divisions, tho’ most of them were Chevys of course. Most all had white vinyl tops and white interiors–Montes, Impalas, Caprices, Cutlasses, etc. Cad’s Persian Lime came out in 74. The green on these were a couple of years later.

I never liked the pointy rear on these or the grand am…it was always just weird looking….the only colonade Pontiac that looked right was the grand prix, these were almost like the designers pencil slipped and the just rolled with it….pretty car though…rare to see anymore

I love it! Everything about this car, inside and out, is awesome! I love the white interior, and bucket seats! I like the matching vinyl top! I love the paint color! The color keyed Rallye II wheels are a big plus! the a/c works?! I just don’t think I’d spend $18,000 to own it.

The ad mentions the transmission was rebuilt in it. On a 30,000 mile car, the question is WHY??

I had one of these, it was a silver blueish color, had the 260 olds motor. It was a slow POS and got horrible gas mileage to boot. 100 dollar car in 1984

Love the color. Not worth 18k to me but someone will get a very nice, distinctive vehicle

Definitely wouldn’t misplace it in the parking lot. I kinda like it but I don’t know if I could stand to look out over the hood all the time with that color
