Great Condition: 1950 Chrysler Windsor

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1950 Chrysler Windsor is a nice looking car that the new owner will be able to drive and enjoy immediately. You will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. Located in Grants Pass, Oregon, it is offered for sale with a clean title. The owner has set a price of $8,500 for the Windsor.

This Windsor certainly sparkles in the sunlight. The paint looks nice, and all of the chrome trim also looks really good. The car isn’t perfect, but for a 68-year-old car, it’s still pretty good. There is some scuffing on the front bumper, and also a small ding on the passenger side front fender, but there are no obvious rust issues with the car.

The owner states that the upholstery is all original. If this is true, then it has certainly stood up well. The dash pad, a new feature on the Windsor from 1949, is clean and crack-free, and the rest of the dash is complete and well preserved.

We don’t get any photos of the engine, but we do know that it is original. The engine is the 250ci straight-six engine, which is mated to a 4-speed Presto-Matic transmission. The owner does say that the car runs and drives really well. Looking at this additional photo of the interior really demonstrates how well the upholstery has held up over the years.

To my mind, this 1950 Chrysler Windsor 4-Door Sedan represents a really good opportunity for someone to secure a classic car at a very competitive price. The car only has a couple of very minor issues to address, but these aren’t urgent. This is a car that the new owner can drive and enjoy immediately. With nice examples currently selling for $12,000 to $15,000, this one looks like a good deal at the asking price.

Yet another one of my favorite cars a post war Mopar. I really like these things, they weren’t the best looking cars but they were tough and reliable and would go the distance. This is a nice example of a chryslerat its best.

I like these too,,,but,,in the power dept., it doesn’t have a heck of a lot more than the red Plymouth,( 116 hp to the Plymouth’s 97) and weighs again as much. I’d have to think this is a pretty anemic car to drive, and here’s where a basic V8 could come in handy. I think many may have forgotten how flathead 6’s perform, especially trying to move a Chrysler.

I can’t argue with that logic, id be happy with a 318 CID and either a torque flight or a newer 4speed auto over drive. I’d just have to drive it awhile before I’d make that move. If it were mine and I did that I’d put the inline 6 and transmission on a running stand and keep them, you could put an electric generator on the output shaft and run power into your house during power failures.

Any version of Fluid Drive would also make accelerating quite leisurely.

I agree with your point of Veiw on the fluid drive and I would change it out for a tourque flight or a 3 speed manual colum shift. Just to get more power from it and better ecceleration out of it. It would likely improve gas milage to. I see nothing wrong with keeping the engine but those fluid drives a laim. Just another option from my above comment.

Always hated this particular Mopar body style, mainly because it looked so stodgy compared to other early 50’s rides. However, I hate the Chrysler version a LOT less!

That front bumper looks like an early version of the 5 mph ones.

My Mom bought one of these in the early
’60’s for $50. And to a small boy, (myself)
it was huuuuge! Looking at the interior
pics of this car reminds me of just how
thick and comfy the seats were and how
their pillowy nature could devour a small
child! The ride on these cars was very
comfortable and could make the driver
very sleepy. If you got tired driving this
one, proceed to the nearest rest area,
pull over, climb into that humongous
rear seat, and settle your brains for a
nice long nap. As I recall, our car ran
    as smooth as fresh-churned butter.
And though our car had a straight 8,
it seemed to run forever while sipping
very little gas. And to cap it all off, the
radio even worked! What a treat it was
listening to WLS going to and from church every Sunday! All that ended
when some jerk in a ’58 Ford ran a stop
sign and T-boned us. We were shaken
up a bit, but the Ford was totalled. Mom
traded the Chrysler to a man she knew
    for a ’54 Chevy 210 4-door sedan with
a 235, 3 on the tree, and flipper hubcaps.
Seems that the gentleman ran a body
shop and to this day, I’ve always hoped
that he repaired the Chrysler rather than
scrapping it. What a wonderful car it was.

This doesn’t have fluid drive? Our 1950 Windsor had it. Never heard of Presto-Matic. Yes, it was way underpowered. I think it would be really hard driving this car in today’s traffic, especially at a green light. Also for a six cylinder, it was not that great on gas mileage. But when up to highway speeds, it was a great cruiser and very comfortable

Fluid Drive was marketed with various names. Fluid Drive refers to the fluid (or torque converter later)coupling and clutch. Several transmissions were used with this device . Some were semi auto and some had a three speed manual transmissions.

Sweet looking car. I’ve always liked the 1949-50 Mopar cars. I’d buy one if I knew someone who also like old-school Mopars. :)

    Nice example but no demand.

Probably hard to get 1/2 of the asking price

Sad but very true Del. I looked at one this nice last Spring here in California. I do know cars very well, had one like this years ago and am a concours judge. The one I checked out was very nice, and was asking $3500. I checked with the owner a few weeks later and it was unsold. And, this is in car crazy Southern California.

I have a 1952 Dodge with 8000 miles on it. The car is near perfect inside and out. Would love to sell it, but it will not bring enough money unless I find someone that has to have an ultra low mileage 52.
