Gun Rack Included: 1972 Ford Bronco Half Cab

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Back in 1972, if you needed a rig to off-road, go hunting, and drive to town, the Bronco would have been on your short list. It was tough and capable then and is highly collectible today. This particular one may look a little sun burnt, but it hasn’t been modified or cut up. It’s located in Nordheim, Texas and is listed here on eBay where the auction is ending soon.

This was already a rough and tumble rig, but the Marti report shows that someone checked all the right boxes for off-roading. It has the Traction-Lok rear axle, extra cooling radiator, and skid plates! The skid plates alone make me want this Bronco for some reason. Unfortunately, the seller doesn’t include any photos of the underside so we can’t get a look.

It also has the optional 302 V8. The seller has paperwork that shows it was rebuilt at some point. The engine does run and the seller has driven the truck around some. It could still use a tune-up though and the brakes are a little soft. There’s also some rust that needs attention, so plan on some weekend projects.

We are not actually sure if the gun rack is included, but if bidding gets much higher, I’m sure the seller would be happy to throw it in. Heck, they might even include the gun! The interior needs some help, but these are so simple inside that it wouldn’t take much to get things looking nice in here. The AM radio is gone, but luckily no one has cut up the dash.

This was the last year for the half cab truck design. The wagon may have been more versatile, but this was perfect for someone who needed a truck that could maneuver on rough terrain. Plus, it just looks so dang cool! Hopefully the next owner will dial everything in, source a front bumper, reupholster the seats, and enjoy this rig the way it should be enjoyed!

this one has some needs but great potential. Too bad I don’t fit in the half cabs.

Had a chance to buy one of these in the early 90’s for 4K, same color and about the same shape. Thought he was too high and passed, now I could kick myself.

…agree! A 302 V8 in this lightweight? Might as well just be a seat strapped to the engine! Love it! What a head snapper!

Hoo-wee, got Texas pricing, for sure. Most half cabs were used as gas station plow trucks, like a Jeep, and suffered accordingly. I’m sure, being a Texas truck is the only reason it’s here. It’s rare, but $10g’s rare?

Howard I’ve been looking a first generation Broncos for a couple years and the prices are completely insane. I come to the conclusion I will never own a third one because I refuse to pay musclecar money for a daily driven old 4×4.

Hey Jimmy, I hear ya’. I guess in this case, being rare DOES mean more money, I can’t believe it either. Ok, maybe 10g’s for a clean one, but these are not like a modern 4×4.( and $10g’s today would get you a darn nice modern used 4×4) They were made for bouncing down canyon roads,( it’s called a “Bronco” for a reason, they do bounce) or back woods, in low range, pulling your ATV’s or boat back to your favorite fishing spot, not 6 lane interstates. It’s still more of a machine, like a CJ or Scout, than anything. When I bought my ’77 GMC recently, it’s word of mouth that gets you the deals, and you have to get them before these vultures pick them up to flip. If you see a Bronco sitting in a back yard somewhere, knock on the door. No guts, no glory. Good luck.

I hear you. Same with pre-’68 VW busses. Insane is the word.

This one looks like a good farm truck or hunting vehicle to me.

A little confused here. A man places a vehicle for sale on ebay, where folks who are interested in purchasing can offer, or not offer whatever amount they choose to give for a vehicle, and the seller is considered a ‘vulture?’

I’m sorry, I guess vulture is a harsh word, it’s just, this is no ten thousand dollar vehicle, and most of these flippers( is that better?) get these for a fraction of what they’re asking, and rather than pass that savings on to another old car enthusiast, they choose to set an unrealistic price, and they will get it eventually. It excludes many today from enjoying the hobby,,,that’s my beef.

You say ‘flipper’ like it’s a bad word. Good Lord everything is ‘flipped’ as you call it. I buy & sell classic cars. I do it because I love them and it pays the bills. Many I spend months on repairing & restoring, some I spit shine and turn them loose, hopefully for a profit. All always are exactly as described and I have had nothing but satisfied customers over the years. I mean when did buying & selling classic cars become a bad thing? I’m out, getting ready to ‘flip’ some burgers for lunch! :)

I bought a 1964 F250 4×4 from a old friend of mine for a 1000 dollars.. My brother in law wanted it so, jokingly I said ‘I want a old school bronco. he traded me a 1972 half cab with a 302 straight up.
