This amazing and mostly original 1947 Plymouth convertible is said to have been pulled from an Iowa barn after nearly fifty years of storage! Said to run, it can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $16,900. Still located in Iowa (Mount Union to be exact), the car appears to be a great project for restoration. If you are in the market for a unique ride, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better starting point than this. Thanks to Roger for the tip on this cool convertible! Let’s check out the details.
Unfortunately, a majority of the photos in the ad are out of focus. Along with a shot of the back seat, this is the best photo of the interior. The ad states it has original upholstery, but unfortunately, the front door panels are missing. The convertible top is said to go “up and down fine” but will need to be completely re-done. The rear window is included, which is great.
The car was apparently tan from the factory and was painted blue sometime in the 1960s. Overall, the ad makes the car sound really good. A thorough inspection would be warranted due to the higher asking price, but if the ad is 100% accurate, the price may be in the ballpark. What do you think? With great looking trim, originality of the interior and a running engine, is this car worth the nearly $17,000 asking price?
Looks like a good start for a driver alass its not a grade 2 which makes it a 7500 find. Still I would love to have it.

It is priced about double what it is worth in this condition. If the owner is expecting to get a downgraded offer, he has a lot of room to move.

What would you do with it, if you inherited it? And the deal was you could not sell it, it would just pass on to another heir (who you did not like) if you did?
Well, it was fine in Hollywood in 1946, where you could never go more than 50 mph, now most of the time the freeways don’t go much faster than 50, but, sometimes, with low traffic, 80 is the prevailing speed. And you need quick acceleration, and rapid braking even at slow speeds.
Since it is not worth the $ to make it into a concours car, I would keep the appearance as original as possible, and the whole thing as Mopar as possible, so the slant 6′, disc brakes, dual master cylinder, power steering and brakes, and A/C, and drive it a lot.
Just as a reminder, if you buy one that’s got dents up the kazoo, take 100 hours times $75.00 an hour (7500 bucks for the mathematically challenged). I would rather have this where I could see what I started with. I had a couple 48 P-16 coupes and totally enjoyed them. One I drove all over creation and it’s 3 spd/overdrive would do 70 all day long………….
Just too much of an asking price.
