This Toyota isn’t your regular run of the mill people hauler, it’s a Japanese Hot Rod. Listed here on eBay in Fairfax, Virginia, this 1972 Toyota Corolla project is packing a 2T-G race engine that has been bored out to 1.8 liters. With a starting bid of $6,500 (zero bids at time of writing) and a BIN of $12,000 it isn’t cheap, but boy it could be fun!
We don’t know how long the owner has been working on this project, but he says “for sometime now”. The owner has a clean California title and has never been able to run and/or drive this unfinished project.
The Toyota 2TG race engine is a 1600cc twin cam bored out to 1800cc with twin Mikuni 40S carburetors mated to a 5 speed. According to the seller, the motor was built by Larson and King out of Portland, Oregon. The engine compartment is said to have been sanded and repainted before installing engine. Other replacements done include: a new radiator, starter, front grille, ignition coil and alternator.
All the panel have been stripped and primed. The only rust, according to the owner, was in the trunk.
The owner has installed this new upholstered driver’s seat. There are 2 original wire harnesses included for the next owner to wire the yet to be installed gauges.
The tail lights have been replaced with JDM Sprinter units. The wheels are 14X6 Minilites. The side windows (maybe he means the glass for the doors) and front and rear windshields need to be installed. New Toyota seals for these are included. The owner doesn’t have the time or space to finish this project. It does look interesting and a lot of work has already been done. Is it worth this kind of money? Time will tell, but like they say, it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay.

That would really be a fun car. Very clean body and gorgeous engine. It’s obvious he put alot of money into it, but realistic price for this is probably 8k
Y plate equals a SOFA car. A little expensive but not tooooooo far off the mark here. Of course, if you’re SOFA, you’re taxes are far lower and you have free access to any base shop. Wish I had a Y plate….

NIce but a little on the high side ($6500) for an incomplete non runner not to mention the 12k BIN.
Not sure what he is trying to convey with the Japanese number plate.
Probably was sold a story that a serviceman brought it back from Japan however since its a US model not RHD and the plate is wrong for the class of vehicle its a story but not a true one.

Toyota paints their engine compartments the same color as the body as well as the trunk.. If your going after a $12,000 ” Hot Rod” Corolla you’d better make it factory original to certain extent. Too bad he couldn’t have found 88′ or 89′ supercharged MR2 engine.
