Is it a 1968 Dodge Charger or a 1970 Dodge Charger? Who likes the custom grill? This is actually a 1968 Dodge Charger that was wrecked at some point and the front end was replaced with a 1970 Dodge Charger grill and surround. The car is located in Davenport, Iowa and is listed here on eBay with a current bid of $6,100. The VIN indicates that this car was originally a 440 cubic inch V8 equipped R/T, even though the car no longer has its original engine.
This is the best looking, non-running engine I have ever seen! It is currently equipped with a 383 cubic inch V8 engine and a 727 automatic transmission out of a 1970 Coronet. The seller states that he was able to get the car running but that the car needs brakes, a fuel system, radiator, alternator, and other vital components to be driven. The seller is honest to admit that the engine is not rebuilt.
With the complete redesign of the Dodge Charger in 1968, sales were up and topped 96,000 units for the year. The popularization of the Dodge Charger by the movie “Bullitt” also helped with one of the best chase scenes featuring a black Charger R/T chasing Steve McQueen in a Mustang GT. The interior looks to be all there but is going to need a complete restoration. Rust has taken its toll on the body and the description states what the pictures indicate.
In 1968, Dodge did away with the fastback design and combined a beautiful flying buttress and coke bottle body design. For 1968, most cars that raced the Dodge Charger saw the car’s unique round taillights. With 35 bids, there has been a lot of interest in this car with 3 days left in the auction. Check out the additional pictures and video posted by the seller.
I see areas of orange paint …..is this a General Lee movie car stand in ?
The cragers and drag slicks look good one this, I like the 69 taillights better the 68 taillights.
Chargers are coming out of the woodwork!
And the ground apparently.
Straight up ad, no bull. That thing was driven beyond the meaning of hard. Anything can be fixed I guess…
Vin tags go for alot.
” The popularization of the Dodge Charger by the movie “Bullitt” also helped with one of the best chase scenes featuring a black Charger R/T chasing Steve McQueen in a Mustang GT”
nope, the charger was being chased by the mustang …
And accurately so! A 390 Ford will forever chase a 440 Dodge!
70 front ends don’t even compare to 68-69’s!
The rust is very noticeable and would be a real problem in the recon of this one
and yet another new flipper is added to the bunch LOL he knows nothing about the car probably found it for five hundred bucks on an old guys property.
It’s a $400.00 car to start with and you really want to get some exercise spending money and time on this one. Pass.
THAT’S the std steering wheel that should have come with ALL chargers & its relative cars. Not the one with the horn ring. & maybe an optional thicker tuff wheel or larger 2 spoke sport wheel avail on ’74 challenger.
I’m amzed and I guess I shouldn’t be. All these rotten hulks coming out of the bushes. Like one of the guys pointed out, as this ol grey hair will, when you go into a project like this you want to know exactly what you are getting into.Pay no attention to the @$$clowns on tv that make it looks fast and easy. If you are going to pay someone to do the work, remember that this is custom work and you will pay by the hour. One excellent shop I deal with starts off with a $2000 deposit; when the 2k is used up, the owner will require another payment. Another great shop bills monthly, When the $$ stops, so does the work. Hope this helps in your decision, sorry its off topic.
Cheers

Wow just wow. Never seems to amaze me on how much these rusty buckets go for.
You are buying a VIN. Total junk. Sad
this whole old car thing is super easy. If you don’t like it, think it’s an over priced rusty POS….then DON”T BID ON IT
Funny. In high school, my uncle had a 70 with a 68 front clip on it. :)
With the amount of these that have been on this site in the pasted couple months you’d think the price would drop!!!
Sold for $12,100.
