Instant Equity: 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda

barracuda

Oh, if it were only that easy! The seller of this 1970 big-block Barracuda, which is listed for sale here on craigslist, seems to think there’s lots of money to be made with this car and all that has to be done is to assemble it. If it’s really that easy, I would think they’d look at completing the car before selling it. Thanks to reader Robert R. for this interesting find! The “numbers-matching California” car is located in Columbia Falls, Montana (how did it get there?) and is priced at $29,900. The ad notes that some new parts are included with the sale, including seat covers, carpet, headliner, vinyl top, seat cushions, and a dash pad cover. The 383 is shown with it’s valve covers off; I hope it hasn’t been stored that way for long. Although I’d want some more pictures to investigate, the Plymouth is listed as being rust-free as well. With prices of these Mopars so high, do you think this project is worth it?

I would have thought that for $29,900 you would get air in the tires. Maybe that is part of the “just put it together”. I believe the seller would do better on e-bay with a reserve and see where the price goes. More money than I would spend.

Yes they can bring big money but they cost big money to restore, if he’s legit on the rust free that is about the only plus here. Also I agree if he stored that motor with the valve covers off expect to rebuild if not replace it.

Pure insanity! I think he fell off of the wrong “band-wagon”.

I don’t think is a car that warrants $29k even if it were complete. No special options. It might have been a “white hat” special, but without a fender tag picture I can’t tell. Not worth 10k in its current state.

Ya know he’s got a nice what…..’65 Chevy pickmeup back there. Might have just gotten to be too much for him.

As crazy as Cuda prices have gotten, if it is numbers matching and being a pistol grip 4-speed and most likely a sure grip posi of some ratio he will probably get close to that. Looks like someone already sanded and primed a lot of the car so seller may have bought it for next to nothing from someone in a financial bind.

At the current asking price, there is NO “instant equity”. At best, fully restored, you might squeeze 55K out of someone for it. Given it’s current condition you will easily spend 20K to get it perfect. My math tells me that I would be upside down on that deal. If someone came along with 15-18K. seller would be wise to take it.

Lot’s of dreamers out there with over priced junk. 29k will get you a nice ’70 or ’72-74. Forget about the ’71s, low production make them crayzee priced!
