You might call this one a roller or even a starting point for a custom car. Listed here on craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri is the frame with a motor, transmission, suspension and rear-end for a Mercedes 170 with an asking price of $2,500 OBO. The question here is, what happened to the rest of the car?
This ad was posted on 11/13/15 so hopefully the camera date is incorrect and not that it’s been sitting this way for over 2 years.
What you see is what you get and that’s about it. The body isn’t included and we don’t see it in any of the photos.
The seller states that this frame is stock and will work with any Mercedes Benz 170 gas powered car from 1938 to 1955. You do get the extra pieces pictured above with the frame and running gear, so maybe this could be the start of a custom bodied car?. The frame will roll and it has a clear 1955 title. So do you just happen to have a body sitting around that needs a chassis and drivetrain?
Motor-on,
Robert
What’s next? Is someone going to try and sell an oil stain claiming it is a 1931 Bugatti Royale?
Boy oh boy! Are these sellers for real?! Are there buyers out there actually willing to buy crap like this? Heck I think I will go to the local wrecking yard and buy a couple wrecked cars then ask top dollar for them, heck everyone else is doing it !!!
Greetings,
The price is a deal if the frame is in reasonable shape and the block isn’t cracked.
I agree it’s a ridiculous price, but if you happen to be the guy that needs some of these parts…and they aren’t bad looking parts…where else are you gonna get ’em?
I think this thing is just CRYING for a fiberglass ‘Gazelle’ fake Mercedes kit!!
On the ‘flip’ side (pun intended) the attached chassis of a Bentley chassis brought an easy ten grand a year or two ago. And I could sell more of ’em if I could find them!
