It’s The Law: 2008 Ford Crown Victoria

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Located in Canton, Georgia, and listed for sale here on eBay is this 2008 Ford Crown Victoria. Offered with a clear title, you can park this Ford in your garage for $7,990.

This Crown Victoria isn’t your garden-variety car. It is still kitted out with a few of the options that mark it as an ex-police vehicle. It is said to have 72,000 miles on the clock, and it looks to be in good condition. There is a small ding on the front passenger door just above the protection strip, but apart from that the body looks arrow straight with that Silver Birch Metallic paint having a nice shine to it. There are copious photos of the underside of this Ford in the ad and it is absolutely spotless under there. The black 17″ wheels really set off well against the silver body and give the car a menacing stance.

Under the hood is the 4.6 liter V8 backed by an auto transmission. Naturally being a former police car means that the engine has been “breathed on” just a bit. It comes with heavy-duty cooling, dual exhaust, an upgraded computer and electrics, and heavy-duty suspension. So essentially it goes, stops and handles rather nicely. It also rolls on good quality 17″ tires.

The interior is slightly up-spec from your average police interceptor. As well as a full instrument package you score electric windows and driver’s seat, cloth trim and full carpet. There are a few small screw holes through some of the plastic trim where police accessories have previously been attached, but it would be possible to have these repaired if you felt so inclined.

Vehicles of any description that have belonged to either law enforcement agencies or any arm of the defense forces tend to be quite good investments because they usually have a history of being maintained to the highest standards. This particular Crown Victoria looks like it has been fortunate enough for that type of treatment to have continued after it ended its life as part of the thin blue line. The price on this one may appear to be at the top end for an ex-police vehicle, but the addition of an upgraded interior and its general condition takes it a rung above the average offering out there.

Couldn’t possibly go wrong here. I suppose the 1st thing would be to get rear inside door handles. I’ll have to pass, tho, too many memories of these in my rear view mirrors,,,

Rugged, reliable car low miles and in good condition I’d have to agree with Howard this is great bang for your buck. The only bad thing is people in front of you will drive slow because they think your a cop, but that will wear off once the new cop car models have been around for another year or so. This is a car I would not hesitate to buy and drive. There’s a white one in my neighborhood that is just like this one and throws me off every time it’s behind me.

Quite frankly, I’d probably stay away from the “white” ones. Usually city squads, and probably pretty tired. Something like this, that was probably a detectives car, or a state patrol cruiser, with mostly highway miles, would be the way to go. I hear ya’ on these being somewhat dated, and may not command the respect you might be looking for. Colorado uses new Dodge Chargers. They have an ominous look to them, and that would make anyone nervous seeing those. I’d have to say, I think the Ford had the longest run of any cop car.

Yes, the black and silver of the CSP. You spot them, and you know they mean business. Actually saw an all black unmarked yesterday morning down in COS as I was getting on Highway 24 going to Woodland Park.

Yeah, Colorado got no sense of humor when it comes to law enforcement. I live in Salida.

Yep. There are places in Colorado where you don’t even go 1 mile above the speed limit. Walsenburg is one of those places. Salida another.

Here in Denver there are two kinds of driver…those flying down the streets and the stoners who can’t quite get up to the speed limit :D

I drive a black Charger with cop wheels.
It’s a blast on the highway – people get out of your way in a hurry.
Sometimes you do get a person that drives slow on the back roads when you are behind them, but it doesn’t happen as often as you think.

Now, if I get the front crash bars that I’ve been eyeing……..

Any time I have run on Hwy 160 I always mind my manners. Two ways are always a problem and small towns are always looking for something. You need to watch out at Ft. Garland and Blanca as well.

HOW is this even close to a “Barn Find”? I have a 2001 P73 in the same condition for a lot less money. Can I get that featured here?

P73 is the code for the Street Appearance Package, which basically means its an interceptor, but instead of having black trim, it has silver trim much like the civilian counterparts.

I had a 2003 Crown Victoria ex police car that I had as daily driver for the last few years. Fantastic cars, great on the highway, comfortable. I had American Muscle mustang wheels on it and a louder exhaust (police models come with true duals with a h pipe!)

Fantastic car, shouldn’t have sold it

Bought one of these at a police auction a few years ago for my youngest. It was a great car for her, reliable and pretty much a tank. I paid $500 for it with 110k on it.

Where does this valuation come from?

An ex-police cruiser should be the cheapest CV on the market, not the most expensive.

Meh. I own a 2005 Town Car and while I think the platform is an excellent bang for the buck – this thing is about $2000 too high. For 8K, I would expect more.

Reminds me of the Blues Brothers quote: “It’s got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It’s got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It’s a model made before catalytic converters so it’ll run good on regular gas.” ;-)

Our local short oval & figure 8 track started what they call the Ford Division this year. Old Crown Vic cop cars and taxis racing on the cheap. They have expanded to two divisions already and it’s the most popular class they have.

It’s cheap to get into and fun for the spectators. The Police Interceptors are the hot ticket.

In my line of work, as your friendly Repo Man, I have several of these Crown Vic P71s in my fleet. We use them for driving around looking for addresses of people who default on their car loans. They are great for entering low roof parking garages where our tow trucks can not enter. Nobody ever bothers us driving through bad neighborhoods late at night. You can park them at midnight in Harlem, Bronx, Queens, anywhere, get out and walk right past any group of trouble makers because they suspect you can give them a heck of alot more trouble then they can give you! This business is already hard enough so having unmarked Crown Vics make our nights so much safer. I always buy the K9 units with the full cages and bars on the windows. They keep everyone away.

The ones with the full cages and bars do the job. Safest car in a bad neighborhood.

These can be had for less than $3k and some as little as a $1K every two months at a nearby auction. Almost always they are in great shape.
They come from different gov agency’s.

In Cincinnati the old cruisers were expensive – you had to outbid the taxi cab companies. They were pretty tired, too.

I looked at a retired cruiser that had the interior of a civilian CV installed. Bank and insurance company both got weirded out since the VIN didn’t match the civilian acoutriments. Didn’t buy since the seller was kind of shady anyway. Got a Town Car instead, and loved it.

In my law enforcement career in So. Fl, I’ve been assigned 4 different Crown Vics from new. Put 75K miles or so on each. They were always dependable, rode well and stopped good. Not the fastest but I’m a believer in that mighty 4.6. They were maintained well because if you didn’t schedule preventative maintanance every 3K miles, fleet manager would shut off your gas card. I was always early to my oil changes. I would own one as a personal car in a second. Now in a marked Explorer(sigh)

I daily drive a 2005 CV ex-detective’s car. Triple black (meaning black exterior and interior and tinted windows). Can’t understand the price on this one. I bought mine about a year and a half ago in PA, with 52k miles on it, for $4200. And yes people do slow way down when you are behind them…amusing for awhile…

Tell me about it. I drive an ’03 Sport, and, especially at night, even while doing the speed limit, people that see that recognizable headlight configuration ALWAYS slow down. Can be quite frustrating !

Crown Vics are really great cars. Mine is a P73, but much better equipped with dual power seats, leather, 3:73 axle, auto temp, all of the goodies. It’s EXTREMELY comfortable, responsive, and quiet. The bucket seats have great lateral support, and the lumbar adjustments are a necessity for a long drive. 239 horsepower is enough to bring a smile to my face. Now, if I only put a supercharger on…

These were in use so long I can hardly remember what they used for squad cars before, big squads not the little mustang getty up car. These are so synonymous with law enforcement I forget Ford did actually make these for civilian duty. Duty? It’s interesting now I’m always on the lookout for those stupid Ford Explorers, what an eyesore of a cop car. Yuck!

Before Ford, Chrysler provided most LEO cars, most of which, it seems, were destroyed in the movie.

I have never heard a negative comment about the Crown Vic’s, and I’ve known several civilians, who purchased the fully dressed models, with leather, and upgraded rims, trom, etc…and have friends who are retired from law enforcement, and loved driving them…a couple bought former detectives cars, when they retired, had them painted, and still had them, last time we talked.
One friend has over 250,000 Miles, on his, and runs strong, and looks great.
The black sedan, from PA,is a good looking example, of a well cared for, detectives, or Captains daily driver…a former neighbor, of mine in California, got a new, fully dressed Crown Vic, every two years…always
had people waiting to buy his ‘Retired’ driver.
I just might keep an eye out, for a nice one for my daily driver, especially
    for the winter driving…

Honestly Denny the buy in price on these is so low….just be patient and find one that wasn’t a pursuit car and you’ll be happy you did. Parts are cheap and plentiful, the ride quality is one of the smoothest I’ve ever experienced (and I’ve had over 60 cars), and the trunk space is almost obscene (never a need to rent a mini storage ever again….just use the trunk of your CV).

I have a small collection of 6 Crown Victorias, all are factory taxi packages, several are of the 50 that were sold to the NYC Transit Authority and were factory white. The only ones that were not yellow from the factory. I have one of every year from 2005-2011. they are long wheelbase, being 6″ longer than the regular ones. I also have a 1996 Ex NYC yellow cab that I bought from the family of the original owner, it was painted gray when he retired and I repainted it the same color.

Huh, I didn’t know that the factoryTaxi CVs were extended wheelbase, makes sense though. I bought my 2005 Town Car specifically because of it being the longer wheelbase.

They are great cars! I had a 2003 P71 that I sold @325,000 miles. Now my daily driver is a 2008 P71. White, tinted windows, dog dish hubcaps, push bar. Also has the ballistic door panels & halon system. Love the respect on the road! I work in the “ghetto” so it’s perfect for my work car. I have another set of wheels that I have 4 snows on. It’s a beast in the snow.
