La Carrera Potential: Lincoln Capri Project

Lincoln Capri Project

Here is a Lincoln Capri that was destined for the famous Mexican Road Race, La Carrera Panamericana, but it  was never completed. This package deal includes parts from four cars and could be a bargain for the right person. If you are interested in entering this grand road rally, this car may be for you. Find it here on eBay with bidding starting at $500 and a BIN price of $7,500.

La Carrera Lincoln

Lincoln’s were formable competitors and had many wins during the short lifespan of the original Carrera. A Capri won the big block stock class in 1954 and many were entered each year from the beginning. They may not be as fast or agile as the Ferrari’s and Mercedes’s but they make for reliable and comfortable cruisers that are perfect for this long distance road rally.

Lincoln Capri Project Parts

The sale includes the best parts from four Capri’s. Here you can see on of the parts car and a stack of bumpers. This might be worth picking up just for the amount of spares included. We would have to inspect the body that is in primer above, but from the photos it looks like all the body work has been done.

Lincoln Capri Project Engine

The listing mentions that the 364 Cheater V8 is done and we assume this is it. The seller is also including a 317 so you will want to do some research and see which class each engine would place you in. Lincoln Capri’s came with air conditioning standard and we would be tempted to add it to this one to combat the heat down there in Mexico.

1954 Lincoln Capri

Here is a shot of the Capri that ran in the 1954 rally that could serve as inspiration for the project above. We love the graphics and painted steel rims on this racer. It is going to take a lot of time and money to that car to this state. If you want to start with something a little closer to this you may be interested in this car for sale.

Jalopy Journal has some video footage from the 1954 Carrera that you see watch to get motivated for this year’s event in October.

1954 Lincoln Capris or any 54 Lincoln for that fact, DID NOT COME with air conditioning as standard equipment. It was an option, quite a costly one, and not that common. A 54 Lincoln so equipped can be identified by the chrome intake grilles on the rear fenders and the clear plastic tubes on the package shelf that duct cold air from the trunk mounted evaporator into the car to be discharged from 4 circular vents found in the headlining of the car.Mr. BillHamlet, NC

I can remember when I was a kid of 16 there was some pictures of the Pan-American road race and the first four winners were 1954 Lincolns that came in at almost 1 second apart.
As a Ford lover, I was really impressed by this one, two, three, and forth place for Lincoln.
