When it comes to collector vehicles, there are some that are just steady cruisers in the marketplace. They don’t gyrate wildly vehicle to vehicle, and the details are seemingly the biggest difference maker when it comes to one reaching a higher sale price than comparable examples. The Chevrolet SS pickup was essentially the same truck across the board with the exception of paint schemes, and most of them ended up wearing black like this truck. Low miles, lack of modifications, and clean cosmetics are what tend to drive the price higher, and this 1990 SS listed here on eBay is mostly stock aside from a few curious touches.

The SS predominantly came spec’d just like this truck is, with a Garnet Red cloth interior  and nicely sculpted bucket seats. With just under 67,000 miles, this SS isn’t exactly a time capsule but it looks nicely preserved for the miles. The interior condition speaks volumes about a vehicle, in my opinion, and this SS clearly looks cared for. The seller reports that it’s mostly stock, and I see a only a few unusual deviations: first, the vinyl-style top is a serious head-scratcher, and I don’t mean for an SS: I mean for pickups in general. I can’t recall ever seeing that before. The other tweak is a set of aftermarket alloy wheels, and the seller discloses a tonneau cover has been added.

Those are all purely cosmetic modifications, and easily reversed – though I am curious what the roof looks like under that custom top. The original SS wheels are integral to the package, in my opinion, and since the seller doesn’t reference them in the listing, I’m guessing you’ll have to find a replacement set if you want to return the truck to its original appearance. However, what’s more important for establishing value is that the mechanical bits remain untouched, and this SS does appear to be completely stock in that regard. From the factory, the 454 V8 pushes out a healthy 230 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque.

Upon looking at the truck from this angle, we can see there’s another enhancement: the running boards that also seemingly function as a side skirt, given how they blend into the rockers, and the same extensions are noted behind the rear wheels. What an odd assortment of custom touches! When everyone else was adding headers and upgraded differentials to their SS, the first or second owner was more concerned with adding styling elements that likely came straight from a local auto parts store. Regardless, this is an easy project to return it to stock appearances, and will be well worth the time spent. The asking price on eBay is $25,000.
