A 1969 Ford Mustang equipped with the Mach 1 trim and the Cobra Jet engine was one of the most impressive Muscle cars available at the time. Now, they are highly collectible especially examples that have maintained their original parts. This example is said to have lots of original parts and is in good condition. The seller notes that the odometer has not rolled over and reads just under 95k miles. It is available for auction on eBay. The bidding ends Monday, November 16th.
The Mach 1 is finished in Wimbledon White with red striping and a rear panel black. It is said that the car had bodywork executed on the left and right rear panels due to dents. Bondo was used and the car was repainted. It came from the factory in a Pastel Grey. The seller notes that the paint is in fair condition but has lifted in areas exposing grey. The glass is factory-tinted and in good condition. The bumpers were assumed to be replaced when the car was refinished. The car presents well but could use a little love to return to its prime.
There are no front seat or dash images included in the listing but the back seats of the Mach 1 appear to be in excellent condition. The seller notes that the car will need a new headliner, dash pad, steering wheel, door sills, and carpet. The car’s factory seats are said to have been restored and are in good condition without blemishes or tears. Judging from the seller’s description, the car needs a good deal of attention but is still in decent shape considering its age. Some of the restoration has already been done.
This Mustang’s 428 SCJ engine was rebuilt by Blue Oval Performance in 1999 and has driven less than 2000 miles since the work was done. It is reported to have no issues. The car’s 4-speed manual transmission is reported to work well. The car is accompanied by a red premium carpet kit, rear trunk wing spoiler, original OEM oil cooler with lines, hoses, brackets, and oil filter diverter adapter. This car presents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiast who wants to finish the restoration of a fairly original Mach 1. The seller notes that heavily modifying this car would be a waste of a sought-after well-maintained vehicle. If you think you’re up to taking this car on, bid on eBay before Monday.
Powertrain is all business 🏁
Wow! What a bargain compared to that 115k 1998 trans-am posted earlier on BF. Nice Mustang!
Nice write up Sarah.
Original parts on an SCJ are particularly key to resale value as you pointed out.
Undercarriage is very original and in great shape. Staggered shocks, 31 spline axles part of the heavy duty set up for 4 speeds. I have nonstaggered and 28 spline with my auto tranny.
Do not see the engine oil cooler installed, that would be mounted in front of radiator driver side. Holes for top bracket present. However, that monster 8-Quart oil pan is just incredible and will keep the engine oil plenty cool with that 3.91 rear gearset.
Hope it finds a great Home that finishes up the little details. And drives it.
Staggered shocks were put on all 1968-81 camaros & firebirds even with 6 cylinders! Not sure why Ford did not simplify its assembly line in that area.
To all readers – what got you a blacked out rear panel & trunk lid on a ’69 Mustang?
Oddly, i have also seen ’69 Mach 1s without “MUSTANG” on the rear panel, replaced by a larger MACH 1 decal – was that a mid year change?
Those white KYB gasadjust shocks on the above car will compensate for weak springs & give the car a lift, but possibly at the expense of a rougher ride.
Interesting photo of the Mach next to a black late model Mustang in that eBay ad. The 69 almost looks bigger. But fifty grand for a car with bad Bondo repairs? Yeah I know it’s numbers matching and runs great but for that money it ought to be done right.
I just drooled all over my key board……
So if the bidding ended on Nov.
16, why is listed here?

in that color get up mustangs look like the cale yarborough torino to me. that’s some drivetrain, but its a trailer and drag strip only car. these 69’s take on a different look in darker colors and magnum 500’s
As a super cobra jet motor with the drag pack, this Mustang should have an oil cooler as TorinoSCJ69 noted and the smog equipment is not there. Still, the current bid of $50k is reasonable for this pedigree. Under side looks real clean but the left rear quarter has lots of rust under the paint.
