An eBay seller is clearing out what looks like a yard full of potential project cars, and while they’ll all need heaps of work, the path towards completion could be much shorter if they’re converted to track use. Among several other vehicles for sale, the most compelling buys are two coupes from 1984: the Pontiac Fiero seen here on eBay, and a fuel miser hatchback that also happens to be able to wind its way around a road course when asked.
The seller doesn’t pull any punches about the condition of the Fiero, noting that vandals smashed out the side glass looking for stereo equipment. This is a desirable manual transmission example and it retains the factory speaker seats that you could likely flip for a couple bucks. This is far from the worst condition cabin I’ve seen on a Fiero, and the seller notes he also has a “…3.4 DOHC + 4T60E or 3.8 + 4T60E” available at an extra cost – both of which are popular engine choices for swapping into a Fiero. That’ll play well at LeMons!
The other dilapidated project car is this Honda CRX hatchback that comes with the 1.3L / 5-speed manual transmission combo. Desirable is in the eye of the beholder, as the larger 1.5L would be my choice; then again, the all-aluminum 1.3L seen here is capable of ridiculous mileage and longevity. The seller says it is “extremely rusty”, but unless the entire chassis is swiss cheese, I’m not seeing it. Find the CRX here on eBay with an opening bid of $200 and no reserve.
If you flip through the photos, you’ll see the front end is, um, disassembled. That’s OK, as the front bumper comes with the car and those plastic fenders were liable to have been smashed to bits years ago. Like the Fiero, this CRX is ready for its interior to be stripped out and a cage welded in. Who knows, you might even breathe some life back into the eager 1.3L mill but an engine swap – like the Fiero – seems a much better use of your time. Anyone looking to build a LeMons team?
Le Mans.
LeMons. Google is your friend.
La dumas
Unless of course the original intent was as a reference to a hypothetical team of ‘lemons’ which might possibly even make some sense given the cars in question.
This guy never heard of the LEMONS race? google is your friend Dirk
You guys really ought to consider knocking off the “google this or google that” business. So they did not know what LeMons was. Either tell him or don’t, but please don’t get snide.
News to me. Guess I don’t get out much.
I recently sold my ’85 Fiero project car… seeing this ’84 is a good reminder of why.
Pass on both
CRX over Fiero.
I’d much rather see a lowly Pinto, Vega, Rambler or Stude grocery hauler at the LeMons show than either of these two cars. The Honda is a yawn all around, and Fiero’s in that condition are a dime a dozen around these parts (Tennessee). By the way, my understanding is LeMons is a car show first but the race portion is good fun! http://www.roadkill.com/lemons-rally-2018-retreat-moscow-need-know/ Googled it. snicker
yeah, I don’t read into it as ‘snide’ (even if that wuz intended). I C it as a means of brevity here and encouragement to a deeper explanation ~
I am on 2 or 3 make/motor BBS, listserv or whatever-they’re-called sites. We got guys there in LeMon show up askin pointers on specific straight 6s, suspension mods, etc. It’s alot of fun to follow their exploits. I use wikip’n google a good deal.
My 22 y/o daughter has an anatomical extension I calla ‘cellie’. She googles all day long, but that’s a gender ofa nother generation!
