Less Than 8K Miles: 1992 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The C4 Chevrolet Corvette remains one of the better performance bargains out there, especially if you’re not inclined to stepping up to the big dollar purchase of a ZR1 or Grand Sport model. That means you can buy a standard example like this one with low, low miles for less than $20,000, and sometimes even below $15,000 if you’re willing to go a bit higher on the odometer. This example is red on red with just 7,412 original miles – that’s less than 8,000 – all for an asking price of just $19,750. That’s a sweet deal no matter how you look at it, and the Corvette can be found here on craigslist in Billings, Montana.

The seller clearly has a few horses in the stable, and a garage with the kind of space any of us would be glad to call our own. The Corvette has clearly spent a fair amount of time indoors, and that’s a good thing given the weather conditions that can spring up in a place like Billings. The seller even points out that no test drives will be offered during inclement weather or when the roads are otherwise messy, and I’m totally fine with that. It’s more alarming when an owner will let a car like this be driven on salt-covered roads, and I hope the next caretaker keeps this one indoors during the foul weather months. The Corvette has been updated with the later model wheels, a great upgrade that always presents well.

Red leather is one of my favorite color schemes inside a Corvette of this vintage, and as you can see, the seats are darn near perfect. Of course, you’re going to have to enjoy seeing shades of red everywhere you look, as the carpets are red as well. The interior shows no flaws, aside from my new biggest gripes about classifieds listings: please take the damn mask out of the car. I don’t want to associate the interior of a collector vehicle with your nose and throat deposits. It’s akin to seeing a bloody Band-Aid in the cup holder – total turn-off. That pontificating aside, the seller claims everything works as it should, including the digital gauges.

The engine bay is spotless, and it shows zero signs of modifications. No aftermarket exhaust, either, which is sometimes a standard feature on even survivors like this. The seller reports that the Corvette will come with two removable roof panels, one that’s painted and the glass top option as well. The Corvette is said to be driven regularly despite the low mileage, and comes with all necessary supporting documentation. Overall, for a near-new C4 Corvette with great colors and minimal upgrades, this seems like a bargain – and given it’s been listed for 14 days already, perhaps there’s a chance of making a fair offer on the ask.

Beautiful Vette. I reckon the mask is a modern day solution to the date stamp. Not that I think it’s a good idea.

BEAUTIFUL! A fellow retiree committee member had me rebuild all the suspension on his 90 entry level C4 before he took a road trip to Key West Fl. I think I would like to have one. Comfortable cruiser, After his trip he said the only hiccup was on his return ride he had a flat tire. Nobody tried to steal it. Great price for such a low mile Vette. NICE!

$20k is ZR1 money. 8k mile ZR1 money? No. But very nice ZR1 money, yes.

$20K is very optimistic for a 1992. The low mileage is a plus, but this is a car that should be driven. There is no point in keeping the mileage down for the next buyer. A savvy C4 purchaser would know that the 1995/1996 versions were the best of the breed. The automatic transmission is another minus as is the original design, trouble-prone Opti-Spark ignition. IMO, $20K will put you in a 1996 LT-4 (330 hp) ZF 6-speed car with very reasonable mileage. Collector Editions are very nice. Grand Sports worth buying are unavailable below $30K.
