Lonely Seller Alert! 1970 Mystery Charger Only $1

Apparently, somewhere in Maine, the snow melt revealed this 1970 Dodge Charger, presumably sidelined after a front-end shunt. The listing here on craigslist amounts to 25 words, so let’s have some fun and fill in the blanks in the comments below. The good news? The asking price is only $1.00. Most buyers will agree that this car is worth a dollar all day long. Thanks to AMXBrian for finding this FJ5 “Sublime” muscle car.

Right, so the prior picture was taken some years ago, and subsequently the car gained at least one Cragar S/S wheel, and probably some ubiquitous $35 air shocks. Meanwhile it appears to have lost its front clip, and someone kindly put a blankey over the engine to shield it from weather.

Now we have learned that the car has some kind of engine with a single carburetor newer than the rest of the monochrome engine compartment, and an air conditioning condenser. Also, someone has removed the front springs! Just kidding; this generation of Mopar, like some GM trucks, uses torsion bars in place of springs. Two words in the listing are “numbers matching,” so apparently at least two components match each other.

This mystery Charger isn’t looking too bad underneath, but the picture does prompt a question:  how often do long-tube headers go above the steering linkage on one side and below it on the other? An almost useless description with a fictitious price means A. The seller firmly values his or her time above the combined time of every potential buyer, or B. The lonely seller wants potential buyers to call as an alternative to binge-watching The Andy Griffith Show. Normally we might ask what you would give for the car, but in this case how about details you can identify and /or how it would best suit your personal daydream?

Given the location, I’m willing to bet that El Oxido lurks somewhere.

On Craigslist, if when filling out the listing form you enter an amount in the box using anything other than a number it only lists whatever came before coma or the non-number. So if you entered 10000 then it would show up as $10,000. If you entered 10,000 then it would show up as $10.

Listing is deleted by the seller so it looks like somebody got a good deal.

He was never asking “$1” for it, he was looking to trade for a Chevelle. It’s very common to use numbers like $1 or $1,234, etc. when not seeking a specific amount. I think BF is the one looking for “attention” on this one. One dollar is especially effective so your ad will come up in everyone’s search regardless of any dollar amount filter used. This is smart marketing because you have no idea what car the guy who has the Chevelle you want is searching for. You’re just hoping he’ll find you. You pretty much have to use something low like $1.
