There are lots of reasons to write about a barn find but this one is unique. This BMW listed on craigslist is a bike I love, it runs and drives and the $2,500 price seems reasonable, but this time it’s because of the seller’s interesting threat. Sellers often make threats against scammers, but this fellow’s threat to “sick” his wife on scammers is unique. He also lists among the usual cons things like scratches and dings, he also lists being in Grand Forks, North Dakota as being a con. I wonder what other residents of Grand Forks think about his attitude toward their fair city.
This bike looks pretty solid in the pictures. There’s no rust or apparent rash from it being down. The “6” series was new in 1974. The front disk brake and 60 horsepower engine are nice, but I miss the integral instrument pod and headlight. This old BMW might clean up really nicely and it looks like it will be a nice daily ride. Just be polite to the seller and watch out for his wife.
Ha, now that is classic! He says that he’s a Harley guy but he clearly knows enough about BMW motorcycles to refer to this one correctly as a “Beemer” (or, Beamer)!
Ha! He’s located just outside of Crookston.
as long as it is legit, this looks like a good deal for a running driving BMW motorcycle.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When I was “campaigning” my Ducati 900ss. these big bore flat twin Beems were the only thing that could hug my wheel in the twisties.
Great bike and a fabulous price.
To bad it is not closer to me.
The negative associated with location is that for that part of the country, shipping is a problem, not too mention stuff in LA, Bay Area Calif, Portland-Seattle, or many East Coast communities tend to sell easily and quickly. But that part of the US not so much. Not to mention the enthusiast base is thinner. As one friend says.. harleys-dirt bikes and snow mobiles are what sells in the flyover states.
As to the wife issue, could be just joking or serious. I have several women friends who are ex military and serious bad asses. Or, one of my former renters finally divorced his wife where they lived up in Idaho she was ex military and now a sheriffs deputy. She ran CJIS and background checks on EVERYBODY and put the hurt on people she even perceived as a possible threat. Steve got sick of her crap and was in fear for his own life. I would NOT want to be on that ladies s**t list so perhaps is not an idle threat.
The funny bit is he’s not threatening to sic his wife on scammers, but to “sick” her on them. Sounds yucky!
I had the twin to this bike that I bought in several milk crates for $500 about 25 years ago. I still miss riding her. Great solid bike that you can ride all day. ( not like my Honda where after 2 hours I was way past ready to get off!)
Price is in the “ok” range. Always check the frame for twists as these bent easily. Also she knows under the fuel tank for wetness. As the brake master cylinder is leaking.
I like it, so tempting, good thing it’s not closer. I wonder if anyone up there is coming to NW Florida for spring break?
cough…cough
