New for ’72, Oldsmobile offered a “4-4-2 package” on any Cutlass Coupe, Sport Coupe, or Supreme Convertible to increase “Looks and Handling,” though not necessarily performance. This 1972 Oldsmobile Sport Coupe with 4-4-2 package hails from San Antonio, Texas where it’s being sold to fund the restoration of another vehicle. The auction here on eBay features a $7999 Buy It Now price with the option to Make Offer.
The 4-4-2 package included hood louvers and stripes, blacked-out 4-4-2 grille, chrome wheel moldings, Hurst shifter, and the Ralleye Suspension package of heavy-duty springs and shocks, anti-roll bars, and 14 x 7 inch wheels (thanks to oldcarbrochures.com for some details). This car’s ram-air hood would have been an extra-cost option.
Dig that custom under-dash panel! Featuring a host of auxiliary instrumentation, it suggests possible inspiration from the 1965 Riviera. The new owner should consider keeping this unique conversation-starter. The seller’s statement that the “original 442 Ram-Air hood is metal,” stands at odds with the Olds brochure describing a fiberglass factory hood with “functional scoops and tie-downs.”
Several engines could accompany the 4-4-2 package in 1972, from the L32 two-barrel 350 to the factory-blueprinted L77 four-barrel 455 cubic inch monster. This car’s 350 and transmission was rebuilt and never installed. Hopefully it has enjoyed indoor storage since then. Do you see $8000 here?
That custom center stack alone is worth 8k!!
looks to be a far price and decent shape. They my keep the custom console though!!!
It looks good, but there is more rust than the seller is inferring. The rust bubbles on the trunk lid and the trailing edge of the drivers door, combined with the lack of clear pictures of rust prone areas should be considered a red flag. In ones of the sellers other auctions he as 22 pictures, rather than the 14 used in this ad, so he knows the importance of documenting the cars condition. There is no reason for not including pictures of the engine compartment, hood or floor pans unless their inclusion will hinder potential buyers from making an offer.

The centre stack rocks it! Wonder how hard it would be to duplicate that in my minivan?😎
Groovy console.
the metal in the hood is the underneath
As a profit motive you will have many many man hours, paint, interior, 25 grand invested, for not a 442, not even a clone of one, just a run of mill Cutlass without an olds engine.
And to me not even a unique driver to keep and hold.
While quality mid range performance rebuilds of 455 are out there they are spendy, and as a not original to auto, only worth it to small group of buyers.
If it had sat in my back 40 to start from scratch and redo, maybe; but 8 grand for a “shell” to begin with, no way.
that hood alone is worth $2k to $3k. the buckets another $1.5k, shame the factory console is probably no good but they bring $700 for a good one
First thing I’d do is rip that foolish looking center stack right out & throw it in the garbage where it belongs. Second would be to drop that rebuilt 350 back in that engine bay along with the trans. I dont think it would take much to get it driving again. Not sure what the person above this post is rambling on about that isnt crazy money with all thats included. Besides he may accept a lower offer so if I didnt already own 4 of them & it wasnt so far away I’d be interested for sure.
I believe when the states a metal hood that he is referring to the hood frame. Original Oldsmobile hood like that have a fiberglass over metal frame construction. Most aftermarket hoods that look like that are all fiberglass construction.
I have a real 1969 cutlass sport bucket seats center console 4 barrell dual exhaust make offer all original
